Just remember that Prince Philip, Captain Tom and George "Johnny"
Johnson would all fall foul of this discrimination. Averting it is merely
a matter of common courtesy combined with business acumen...in short: avoid losing good manners along with paying customers!

So - how do you police it? Even with the best will or the best intentions in the world, it's not a job for an innocent abroad. By the way, my late sister - who worked in US Forces employment in WW2 when young - said how her generation would make a point of dancing with the black servicemen they met in the build-up to D-Day. That has always stayed in my mind.
Maybe it somehow filtered down to your angry guys' vision of the English in far-off New York.

The Oscar winning film "Glory" gave the world the story of how the
regiment and its colonel Robert Gould-Shaw found their place in
American history. The disfigurement of their Boston memorial (used
as the background for the film's title sequence) was utterly grotesque. ???

Agree absolutely!!!!!!! Bit of a tell tale, but if that is it it's it! It is senior discrimination. I have thought my birthdate was missing sometimes but found it at the very last scroll.

By the way, thanks for asking if I was still alive cos of Covid. I am as you can read. Hope you and yours came through OK.

So true, I try to find beauty in the smallest of places, right now I'm being intimidated by a group of drug dealing teenagers, my ex husband made me go visit Auswitz in Poland I didn't want to, we both wrote much poetry,
This world is a world of greed and hate, but Wendy reading your poems its like a voice of wisdom in the distance xxxx

Hi Greg,
I now live in Harford, Cheshire and it's difficult to get to readings as transport to Stockport, Liverpool, Chester is difficult as trains often don't run after 8.00 pm that stop at Hartford. I read this post and for me it would be a great opportunity to read my poetry on Zoom even after Lockdown has passed. I also know that it will be a long time before its possible to gather in the usual venues as social distancing will remain for a long time, even longer for many of us. To me it would be a wonderful project. I'd be grateful if you could message me either on Facebook or by email: mikecar61@aol.com when your next Zoom event is happening and I'll join if I can .

Thanks for he 'likes' and the very kind comments.
It is a pain of an affliction which I've had before - and it usually clears up in a week or so - but this time it's lingering a bit. Better today than when I wrote the lines so gradually getting there.
I appreciate your comments and your concern ? x

Love it! And I know JUST what you're talking about. Recently, I tried to buy a dvd set online from a well known high street name and due
to the age restrcition on the issue i was required to insert my date of birth from their list. However, this only went back to the year AFTER my own birth and as i wasn't prepared to use deceit to obtain the
product in question I sent an email setting out the problem.
The reply promised a check with a view to amending their lists. However, weeks later I tried again, only to find them unchanged.
I sent a further email - and got the same reply
Grrr. ? Perhaps i should go and daub
the nearest visible presence of their
dismissive attitude? Would I get any
expressions of sympathy and understanding?

John,
A poet who came to me a cruel end. His opposition to fascism and his sexuality were but a few reasons why he was deemed subversive, yet when all the facets of his nature are pieced together he was a real poet of his age.
Thank you for this

Thanks, Stephen. I’d not heard that saying before. But it’s absolutely right. It’s an extra marital affair I’ve been having for almost 60 years. And it’s been largely unrequited, One of the longest ever cases of Lover’s Balls.

Hi Ray
I've found myself in this kind of mode recently also, worrying about my yucca in the corner, even down to buying baby bio and removing deadness... And she's picking up really well. It's given me a sense of pride too
Great thoughtful Poem Ray

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Have always thought dandelions were grossly underrated, dismissed as 'weeds'. Here theu use the young leaves as a salad plant, and I believe they also have diuretic properties. Dent de lion - deserves much better.

Liked this, (as nearly always!) Ray. Remember the real Gentlemans' Relish. A kind of anchovy past for sandwiches in a rather nice opaque white jar with a lid! Young's Pottted shrimps were of the same period too. don't get the 'tuck shops' bit. A connection to Eton by any chance? Where the governments are going to get the money for all these subsidies from I hate to think. We'll all be in debt for the next half century!
