Thank you Ursula. This poem's been around in my mind for a long time, a long gestation and a difficult birth. I am never satisfied with anything I write.
Oh eyes like wild flowers, oh with your demons of change
(Keep your head up, keep your heart strong)

John, this poem illustrates how easily one can fall off the tightrope of a comfortable life. It is really well written. Thanks a lot.

This reminded me somehow of that old depression song "Brother,
can you spare a dime". ..I think it was the use of that last line
in the final two verses.

Your point is well made, MC. Yes, there will always be new, inspired voices who reinvent enduring themes. May be I am hankering after a golden age which never existed but there does seem to be an awful lot of banality around at the moment, in print and on TV. However, perhaps the tone of the poem was a little too pessimistic.

Fortunate are those who are blessed with loving mothers; These
live on in the memory of their children. who can pass on the
love and care they themselves knew to other lucky souls. That
said -
On days that remind us of those who have gone
We need to remember that we're all moving on..

Interesting and worthy of a response; perhaps that poetry, like
much else, is recycled from what has gone before in basic
human terms, but adapted to suit and reflect the fashions and
tastes of the age in which it is produced . The timeless themes
relevant to existence will always survive if produced with skill, imagination and respect.

I think it is a reality that men who are lucky in their mothers will
invest their sex with all they feel they knew, loved and admired themselves in life. Lucky men who understand just how fortunate they were as the years pass.. The bond between mother and
child - but especially mother and son - is well documented..
