Cheers, John. It is such a rough time for so many people at the moment, that I felt the need to write something. Pleased that you enjoyed it.
And thanks for the likes Clare, Holden, Rudyard, Stephen and John C.

Sure to resonate with anyone who has had a dog in their lives -
and with many who haven't! My sister has owned dogs for most of her adult life and a bearded collie called Sue was one that
inspired me to write some lines for my sister when that much
loved animal passed on in her arms. The tribute began....
At times, alone, I see her face,
I hear her on the stair;
I hold my arms out to embrace my Sue
And she'll be there.

Steve and JC - thank you for taking the trouble to comment.
I think men have a tendency to invest women with the qualities
they may feel they lack themselves and need as a counterbalance in life. Powerful men perhaps more so!

I think it rather demeans women to argue they have no influence over their men. Surely they are more worthy than being considered gagged subordinates.

Thanks Graham, i'm pleased you enjoyed this tribute. My mum only having sons did not have much luck with cards sent in former times, but as our wives appealed to us to make good the deficit. We were to have spent Mother's day at one of ours, but had to cancel due to covid!
Yes Mark, what about that. He is scarred but unbeaten I suppose. I believe the royals have in the course of their employment procedures made fairly staggeringly cruel decisions about devoted staff, but can we expect more considering the history of the overruling tribe in its historical context? I wonder how those fees were actually met?

I have the same relationship with my 11-year-old grandson, they are precious, whether nestled in the crook of your elbow or on the same sofa eating your biscuits.
lovely sentiments, I enjoyed that.

This is a poem that seems to have got everyone thinking but I have to agree with the central thrust, why hasn't someone, mother, wife, colleague, anyone really, spoken to Mr Putin and said, 'What the heck are you doing Vlad? People are dying by the thousands. Stop this madness!'
Of course, no one questions a dictator . .

was perfectly illustrated by HM The Queen in company with HRH

A great poem at a sad moment, Mike.
The conflict, and ultimate reconciliation, of love and necessity are tenderly described here.
Sorry for your loss.

Yes, it is sad that so many Ukrainian families have been split up. It must be heartbreaking. As you say, I am sure that few of them wanted to leave their country and most are keen to go back once the war is over, although the devastation they will find in some places is hard to imagine.

A lovely poem about friendship, Ray. 'Uncaring and sad quality in the speeding crowds outside' - I have had a similar feeling after spending a quiet day at Lord's cricket ground with some friends and the exiting into the mayhem of the evening rush hour.

Writing a poem is like committing a crime,
Which many consider a waste of time.
Luckily for us, it is not.

I'm afraid I find the subject matter too devastating to be anything other than succinct. With all the madness going on in the world, I fear we are forgetting to focus on the most important threat to us all.

Never underestimate the value of rekindling old friendships.
Six of my childhood friends and me have taken to wandering around our old village that is now called a town.
We have even created a private FB group called the Grey Walkers! to coordinate our wanderings. Silly old sods!

Thanks for your comment Mark. There is indeed a bond which should hopefully be for life and cannot be replaced. Commonly mothers will offer support and love to even those of their children who are beyond the pale in the eyes of society.

Well done for this Stephen, a sensitive, well thought out piece.
I was watching our local news yesterday about some lucky Ukrainian people who had managed to come over to relatives here. The one thing that stood out for me was their attitude to their home. Whereas refugees from other countries here were quite satisfied with life, the Ukrainians just want to be able to go back home! Quite telling really.
