They Know

The trees stand silent

But they are watching

The earth welcomes

Your feet

But she rumbles

Ready to make her

Retreat

The sun shines gladly

Don’t take her smile

For granted

She feeds all

That you have planted

The moonlight shines

Tugs at time

But she is ready

To pull the lifeline

The flowers bloom

The wheat doth grow

But, they know ...

They know of your

Greed

They weep

And they wallow

At the warnings

You refuse to heed

The birds still fly

But they know

Because of you

They may well die

They also know

That if they die

So will you.

Thanks for the likes and kind comments.
I'm afraid I find the subject matter too devastating to be anything other than succinct. With all the madness going on in the world, I fear we are forgetting to focus on the most important threat to us all.
