Thanks for bringing this subject to our attention Ray.
The decimation of mental health and NHS services is an important factor in the numbers of homeless.
I've just searched for "No fault evictions"; the first site which came up was templates for evicting residents. Section 21 "No fault evictions" should be made illegal, they are an abomination in a so-called civiised country.

Thank you to all who liked and commented on this poem. It is something we witness on our screens daily. A poet and friend Mosab Abu Tohar, a Palestinian poet and writer, was recently abducted by the Israeli Defence force for no apparent reason. He was badly beaten and when released admitted to hospital for urgent treatment. Is it HAMAS they are fighting or poets, women, children and the disabled? It is indiscriminate and that's a fact. Our government is complicit in this.
Thank you all again,
Keith

Stuart,
Words of wisdom are found in this poem. I say this from personal and bitter experience.
Thanks,

Than you Keith.
As with your poem, I increasingly find myself close to tears when viewing certain news items; for the sake of my sanity, I need to take a break from it all.
Over mother nature, we have little command, but I will not tolerate man-made horrors permitted or committed in my name -or in God's name by arrogant tyrants.

Tom,
A poem which requires all of us to some degree of self examination. It is thought provoking and demands honesty. I enjoyed this and thank you.

Ray, well said. This is a problem which the government does not seem able to deal with. As an ex serviceman it grieves me to see comrades sitting and sleeping in shop door ways asking for money. So much for being a G7 nation.
Thank you for this,
Keith

Excellently put Steve.
The UK is now in such dire straits that those responsible are desperately clutching at whatever "culture straws" they can to distract from their abject failures...and it's going to get much worse in the next few months!

I like the idea that we're all, in the final analysis, lumps of stardust, and that's the only honest way I can find of explaining birth and death to our little ones.

His conk was like that because he was a right boozer; I’ve seen him down at the Old Cock and Bull with a pink elephant who once said to him: "more rain dear?" he said "no ta, ah'll 'ave a bitter"; the pair of ‘em caused havoc one darts night.

I can certainly testify to Carol Ann Duffy's keen interest in football. I was in a pub in Ludlow in 2010 watching England's World Cup mauling by Germany when she walked in at half-time, and asked to sit near the front because of her poor eyesight. (She was performing at the arts festival in the evening). Naturally I wrote a poem about it! https://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=123692

“Life's but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Thank you Stephen, John, Mark and Hélène for the additional comments. I'm really pleased you enjoyed this one. I've been writing it in the back of my head for a little while (there are more verses out there) but I finally managed to pin it down as you read.
Thanks again to Graham. I'd left in the 'scaffolding', a repeated phrase I'd used when trying to give the thing some structure and it hadn't occurred to me that it could be removed once the house was built! 😃
And thanks to K Lynn, Tim, Carlton and Pete for stopping by to have a read!
P.S. John and Stephen, I'm really pleased you liked the audio. It was a rush job...

Thank you, Graham. I hope that the Ukrainian flags return after the festivities. It is probably inevitable that Ukraine is less in the spotlight because of the conflict in the Middle East, However, as we all know, the war still claims lives every day - four civilians were killed in Nikopol by Russian shells yesterday and the daily casualties among the Russian troops (and presumably the Ukrainians) are shocking. The current 'stalemate' is far from being a truce.
And thanks to Tim, Steve, Nigel and Hélène for the likes and support.

An exploratory poem that draws the reader in as the poet ponders the unanswerable question of the ages: "who the heck are we?" Excellent phrasing and rhyming. The last line reminds us that humanity's earthly existence is not perpetual and currently under serious challenge. Well done Stephen!

There is a small market town near here where the houses on the main street have resolutey displayed Ukrainian flags from little flagpoles that are always in situ.
Sadly they have now been converted (as they do every year) to illuminated Christmas trees. They look delightful!
But there is 'one', one still hanging the blue/yellow standard of Ukraine.
The flame still flickers!
Thanks Stephen, amongst all the recent sometimes ghastly rhetoric, for keeping WOL's Ukraine flame alive!
