Interesting and educational, whether one is of a
religious persuasion or not. I also admire the
"hit" of yesteryear "Deck of Cards" - an equally
creative and clever interpretation of the mundane
as a tool of spirituality.

Julian came a very close second, which considering we only heard about this nomination a few days before voting closed, giving Write Out Louders only three and half days to vote, is a remarkable result, if not a moral victory! Maybe the New Year honours await ... !

Morning chuck
Glad to be of service.
I was hoping to come but have been stricken with lurgy and am having to come into work, which makes the whole thing drag on and makes me feel incredibly sorry for myself. I'm deaf, lacking all energy, my head feels swollen to buggery, and my nose is a tap. Also, I am hugely grumpy as I don't cope well with being ill at all. Attractive, eh? So - I'll have to see how I feel. I do love the band and your poetry.
Try and get someone to film it for you. Would be good to have something like that anyway, and then if I don't get to go, I can watch it :)
Have fun anyway mate :) xx

Re 'Hold me' Cynthia- the poem was a word for word real-time event on facebook with a woman in another country. Love was not an issue-why should it be?- she wanted to be brought to orgasm and sleep, that was achieved- with affection. I did not prescript the exchange. The word 'love' is mentioned five times. The inference is within the text. Affection is blatant. We have never met. She lives five thousand miles away.

are you coming to the gig on Saturday @ the Tudor? I'm doing 30 minutes with back tracks (due on @ 8.15 I think) and I've got a good rant one about the conservatives set to a punk toon - you'd love it I think :-)

These feeling of love, sadness and broken heartedness is what I live for.Its what keeps me going.true,I shouldn't let anybody make me feel the way I do,but that is what I am as a person,I don't choose to let anybody control what I feel,it's not something that i choose or want, but it is inevitable to occur without my consent. The reason I write such melancholic poems is because it has made me the person I am today and is the only way i can vent out my thoughts. It is the motivation that has driven me to extents that nobody else can.I trust myself and what I write, and I will continue to write what my feelings and emotions tell me to because it is what I live for and something that I will welcome and embrace for the rest of my life, where nobody will judge my emotions or the person that I am and aspire to be.That is why I will hold onto them forever.

Nice one, Lynne. Why did you use 'lost' from view instead of 'screened' from view. Really curious.

Nicely put, Frederick. Perhaps you might keep the 'fork' idea together in one stanza and adjust your overall structure plan - three 5-liners would work equally well for your ideas and not seem 'contrived'.

Good one, Tommy. Took a while but you got there. The description is graphically very good. Why does this poem not actually infer a deep loving association as well as an erotic nightcap? IMO, the words are there - but that is all they seem to be - words, appropriately mouthed. But there's much to be said for just, plain skill. No argument.

Hi Harry
Thank you for your note. Was it meant to go on Writing in Fire, though? I'm guessing cos you mentioned a deep breath being taken, and there is one at the start of that performance.
Have to say though, it wasn't for effect! We'd just legged it from the station to the Tudor, and no sooner had I got in there than I was due on stage, so was a bit out of puff :D
Anyway, thank you and I hope to see you in the new year :)

I voted too :) As I've said to you before J, if it weren't for this site, and the associated night at the Tudor, I wouldn't have written anywhere near the amount that I have done over the last 3 years or so. It's a pleasure to be able to contribute to such a fantastic site, and to help keep it all going. Good luck!

I would have given the Oscar to Claude Rains
myself. A perfect portrayal of the perfidious
posturings of the politician across the years.

Like this,
Like that final stanza. That `bloated` fits rain-clouds exactly.
I think I would make those last two read
Colours washed until the remains
Are indeterminate shapes, and the distance
Swallowed, swallowed in cloud.
Ah, those clouds! So bloated and low.
Could I reach, push then back,
Reveal hidden horizons?
Sorry for messin` with it (it was so good)

Thanks, Cynthia. I can see what you mean. I had toyed with:
Rain's small rivers on the train window
refract grey light, distort landscapes
But I like rhythm of the first line you suggested and the alliteration in the second line. Let's give it a try...

I like the way this tangled rail-track web ofmetaphore mirrors those web-like pictures of the brain threads that they show, and the `Beeching` reference. Together with the wheels losing their grip and `sliding back` it is alla solid and poetically apt representation ofAlzheimers.
As an example of using the ordinary words of a past even to express the sadness and sense of loss of a present illness it is excellent.

Ah the blue eyes of Peter O'Toole,
Haunting me since the day I left school.
I believe he had no interest in female anatomy.
Some old friend once told that to me.
Outstanding as Lawrence of Arabia,
And a fine actor, although maybe a
bit overshadowed by Omar Sharif,
whose dark eyes expressed ineffable grief.
