I am probably ahead of most if not all of WOL contributors in terms of age and retain an ongoing circumspection about the
attitude of the medicos to matters of health. Many years ago, during a routine eye-test in my old line of work, I was told I'd
probably need glasses sery soon. This actually only occurredf
during the past few years when I adopted pharmacy bought
2X specs for reading and PC screen viewing, while able to
read a car index plate at much further than the DVLA minimum
requirement. I suffered higher frequency hearing loss due to
exposure to firearm use but still manage to hear most things
around me and use headphones satisfactorily for domestic
appliance listening. Have you noticed how many NHS ads.
are exhorting us to check in with our docs about this and
that at a time when Covid has thrown patient queues for serious illness treatment into freefall? And how today's
medicos opt to strike for financial gain at the drop of a syringe?
I now place them alongside lawyers for putting income
interest before client interest! Meanwhile - let's all eat well,
exercise sensibly and keep the brain busy. Mother Nature will
take you when she's good and ready!

Supposedly, when WW was on a walking tour in Germany with his sister Dorothy he let STC and de Quincey stay at Dove cottage which they wrecked consumed much laudanum, led a totally nocturnal existence,, did no washing up, no cleaning/maintenance, didn't pay the milk bill, fell out with all the locals etc etc So you are right Beth pandemonium ensued!

Thank you all.Esoecially you Beth for your generous comment. I lived in London in 1975 and often danced to SH's music. Steve was in hospital for 4 years as a boy, polio. I love the poetry of his lyrics.
You've done it all
You've broken every code
And pulled the rebel to the floor
You spoiled the game
No matter what you say
For only metal, what a bore
Blue eyes, blue eyes
How come you tell so many lies?
Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, running wild
There's nothing left
All gone and run away
Maybe you'll tarry for a while
It's just a test
A game for us to play
Win or lose, it's hard to smile
Resist, resist
It's from yourself you have to hide, oh
Come up and see me to make me smile
Oh, or do what you want, running wild
There ain't no more
You've taken everything
From my belief in Mother Earth
Can you ignore
My faith in everything?
'Cause I know what faith is and what it's worth
Away, away
And don't say maybe you'll try.....

A lovely challenge - Stephen Fry would approve ... here goes:
The poetry tap
Sometimes it roars with a whoosh and a rush
A tumbling torrent, of flash phrases that gush
Sometimes it gurgles, with wheezing wet croaks
An intermittent flow that scarcely soaks
Sometimes it stutters, stops, drips
Barely dampening the lips
Don’t force it
The Poetry
Tap

Hi Telboy,
Thanks for your visitation. I have been fortunate in receiving a helpful hand on occasion. Sadly I have witnessed too much revelry and delight in the downfall of others. It is a sorry world we occupy.
I'm not sure we come back wholly stronger, definitely different.
David.

My daughter asked me to order a bikini online for her birthday.
It took me ages to stop the paper copy of the Bravissimo catalogue addressed to me, coming through the letterbox!!

Thanks Landi,
Forces like those of/in nature don't often spend time preaching, they prefer to turn up unannounced and just do their biblical thing--I like that.
Men like to give warning, usually to feed their little egos and thankfully in doing so betray their intentions...to those that might be paying attention.

The descriptive use of "Like a broken wave" carries so much within four words.
The force of a vibrant life briefly rolling like thunder only to break onto a shore and recede, spilling its every precious moment into grains of indifferent sand.
Those Greeks eh!

Hi Ray,
I'm pleased I hooked into that in a way that gave you some satisfaction, it's great when minds align in that way.
Although I do occasionally post comments which are short and not much use to the author of the piece I do like to post remarks which suggest I've taken some time and real interest in the writers intentions.
There are those who seem to post comments merely in the hope of reciprocal likes, a mutual agreement of recognition which amounts to bugger all. Occasionally I'll see something that I am unable to comment on simply because it is so complete it needs no comment, I might then leave a one or two word response showing appreciation.
I like to think I'm honest, stuff I think isn't up to it or of little interest to me I passover without vacuous feasting.
Anyway, hope all is well Ray.
David

Hi David. Ive gotta say your comments are utterly exhilarating and frame a poem in all its aspects. You have of course read my mind exactly - and added the best compliment I could hope to receive in my endeavours. I applaud your use of "subtle" as I cannot really avoid that. When that runs down the plughole it can take attention with it, as you imply. ( It was Downing Street, now rather twee}.
Cheers mate. Ray

An interesting set of emotions this stirred in me Ray.
Feelings of NIMBY's and first world problems began to raise hairs on the back of my neck.
I wonder what the worries might be for their precious little urchins? that they may slip in the miscreants piss or that they become the miscreants doing the pissing.
The clever distinctions embedded within the poem are very pleasing, the bus stop and the walk to their car possibly demarcating some misplaced superiority.
Your work is subtle Ray and possibly because of that occasionally slips through the cracks of attention spans too sparsely constructed.
I like it.
David
PS, Was Downing Street, Farnham, your framing for this?

I feel lucky to have noticed it as I'm sure many who pass that way don't.
Really, it still moves me as something quite profound and even suggestive of an anachronistic and rare bit of knowledge to which, surely, only the most fortunate were privy 🌷
