HOUSE MOVE

We enjoyed our local walk to view the town

before committing ourselves, John and I.

Nooky shops amid post covid street flower planters

plenty of cafes, dogs allowed

an ebike shop with stools to perch on with coffee and cake

a face painting parlour - even a proper gallery.

The area is holding its own in the current climate.

On our walk though there was a wall

near a bus stop we had to go past

on the way back to our car,

and suddenly we noticed

a smell of piss in a corner.

I can only suppose a homeless man living in that space,

it has rather cast a shadow over our plans

we do worry for the children.

Hi Ray,

I'm pleased I hooked into that in a way that gave you some satisfaction, it's great when minds align in that way.

Although I do occasionally post comments which are short and not much use to the author of the piece I do like to post remarks which suggest I've taken some time and real interest in the writers intentions.

There are those who seem to post comments merely in the hope of reciprocal likes, a mutual agreement of recognition which amounts to bugger all. Occasionally I'll see something that I am unable to comment on simply because it is so complete it needs no comment, I might then leave a one or two word response showing appreciation.

I like to think I'm honest, stuff I think isn't up to it or of little interest to me I passover without vacuous feasting.

Anyway, hope all is well Ray.

Hi David. Ive gotta say your comments are utterly exhilarating and frame a poem in all its aspects. You have of course read my mind exactly - and added the best compliment I could hope to receive in my endeavours. I applaud your use of "subtle" as I cannot really avoid that. When that runs down the plughole it can take attention with it, as you imply. ( It was Downing Street, now rather twee}.

Cheers mate. Ray

An interesting set of emotions this stirred in me Ray.

Feelings of NIMBY's and first world problems began to raise hairs on the back of my neck.

I wonder what the worries might be for their precious little urchins? that they may slip in the miscreants piss or that they become the miscreants doing the pissing.

The clever distinctions embedded within the poem are very pleasing, the bus stop and the walk to their car possibly demarcating some misplaced superiority.

Your work is subtle Ray and possibly because of that occasionally slips through the cracks of attention spans too sparsely constructed.

I like it.

David

PS, Was Downing Street, Farnham, your framing for this?
