'taking the piss' Cynthia? I would never knowingly 'take the piss' ? this was an exercise in trying to create an archaic looking language to fit the archaic looking poem of a crows perspective on life. It was easily achieved using a phonetic translater - which uses emphasis on the words stresses - so reading it aloud is exactly the exercise needed to make it work - the 'translation' was more for those who simply tried to read it - rather than use the phonetics.
Glad you liked it

JC - I still have an LP ("long playing record" for the info. of
the young WOL-ers) of Stan Freberg, and his spoofs of the
Harry Belafonte hit "Banana Boat Song" and the famous
TV show "Dragnet" (among others) still make me laugh. Happy days!

I wrote a poem Love/Hate Relationship on the subject of Marmite...a superior cousin of Vegemite. It's on WOL though you'll have to scroll back a couple of months.

Off-rhyme. Going round the site before joining I felt I could feel safe in your community. You will be aware I'm bipolar - intense emotions, intense drive. I also have different/offbeat/unconventional ideas. A safe environment like WOL is vital if I am to to survive and grow.

A great parody of a great "standard" - sung originally by
(in retrospect) the aptly named Lena Horne!
I've heard of setting a precedent - but this is likely to upset
a president!!
Hands-on stuff JC. I see you as a sort of vulgar Stan Freberg - with a nod to Don Rickles. And I'm not going to
bother to elaborate for anyone ignorant of those names!

Never fear, we are here, to line up and excuse
The chance that you may look askance
And risk blowing your fuse!

If smell is the most powerful remembrance in terms of the senses, then it makes sense how you framed the emotions to be discernible from the rest of the perspective of this piece. Very good poem for being so short.?

they are often the last to roost up in the evening. We have a male blackbird with a single white feather in its tail in our garden. He's a bit bossy. I think he thinks he's a little special with his one white feather. I used to sing Paul McCartney's Blackbird to my boys at bedtime. I must have sung it a thousand times. Nice poem Wendy. Colin.

I look for language play
We're both well-matched together
Desire to banish grey
You don't like 'moaning minnies'
Parts of our abodes are great
Let us appreciate what we've got
And not them us berate

Thanks for the translation. But, seriously, even the original is readable if you actually 'voice' it.
I'm never sure when you are making fun of me. Sort of 'taking the piss'. This is probably one ot those times. But I so admire cleverness and ingenuity, I'm not too bothered.
I have a poem story in 'backtown Bermudian speech' which makes me holler every time I read it aloud, even as I stumble over the accent, let alone the creative 'spelling'. It's just for my own family who know me well. But it was fun to write and also read, definitely fun.
