At the end of the day
The rain now steadily falls
I’ve laid here for hours
Waiting for sleep to come
Keeping my mind company,
I’ve put a few records on
Spinning my favorites and laying low,
Leonard, Elliot, Thom, and Isakov,
Each song delivers a blow
Throwing me back to years ago
I’ve laid here in the dark for so long
It’s too much trouble to turn the lights on
My mind is heavy

With me cries, each corner and wall tonight
What let flowers to slit throat in my garden
Who has invoked the curse to fall tonight
My screams have awoken people from sleep
Separation to be mourned in rainfall tonight?

Mourners have sighted him tall tonight

I tend to soak up life
When nothing is going right
Like the rise of the sun
To the dark abyss of night
There’s a grisly storm coming this way
Leaving a carnage of wrecked hearts
I wasn’t prepared for the bad weather
No shelter can protect me from this
Clouds cracking with electricity
The rain feels like tiny needles against my skin
Safe Harbor is out of sight
There’s no escape from this

The rain has fallen down for twenty hours
from a dead sky of slate and granite hews,
dampening the walls of urban towers.
Cobbled streets the colour of an old bruise,
tyres rattle over pothole dark drains,
counterpoint to some distant splashing shoes.
The day cast in monochromatic stains
as water forms itself into a lake
that eddies into inner city lanes.
