Lovely piece Cynth. You do need to bulk up on your food don't you, while being treated? And I've always loved how you focus in on the small but essential parts of life. The little treats, the lovely blush :)

I promise not to bore you to death with 'chemo' stuff, but this little episode was so charming, I wanted to share it. Kind of a 'feel good' offering.

Laura, how did you pick this up so fast!! Like you're looking over my shoulder. JEEZ! This modern technology!. I love it!

I know what's beneath this. Got more than a few on my own friends list now.

Quite apart from that though, this is a really good poem about our current digital reality.

There was a dialect prompt this month anyway Trev so you're fine! And this is a great piece of work.

I don't think it necessary to know the dialect - there is enough of a glimmer of understanding to decipher this poem that makes me feel I am outdoors. Pulsing with wit and Yorkshire grit -,thanks

I didn't fancy the 'official' prompt today, so this is an attempt to write in Yorkshire dialect, even though I can't speak it properly. There may be a few unfamiliar words for those of you not of the Yorkshire persuasion, so there's a glossary of Yorkshire words here. https://imfromyorkshire.uk.com/yorkshire-sayings/

Again, nothing but admiration. I was actually way too hungover on Saturday to write my own name, let alone learn how to write a sonnet and then write a bloody sonnet! ?

Congratulations on your well-deserved Poem of the Week, Jonathan. Good luck with your plan to take poetry workshops into schools - a great idea to try to deliver antidotes to the Gove/Gradgrind model of education. And at the same time, one can only be envious of your privileged position on the Tripe Marketing Board.

And so … we look back on a four-hour and 55-minute Poetry Day marathon at Woking literary festival, with all its hurly-burly. We had two glittering feature poets, Anum Salman and Robert Garnham, who in their very different ways provided marvellous moments. Nine newcomers to Write out Loud Woking - Ian Lee-Dolphin, Heather Cook, Tom McColl, 16-year-old Elodie Fenton, Trevor Breedon, Richard Hawtree, Rachel Woolf, Shirley Kirkoff, and Mary Pargeter. A total of 28 open-mic poets, that also included including Pete Jardine, David Russomano, Janet Collinson, Kitty Coles, Denise Bundred, Karen Izod, Karen Swaley, Daniel Jeffery, Janice Dempsey, Donall Dempsey, Ray Pool, Heather Moulson, Michael Cutchey, Geoffrey Pimlott, Andy BJ Low, Amanda Briggs, Lorri Pimlott, Chris Ross, and Matthew Paul. Grateful thanks to Frances Wood for manning the poetry bookstall throughout, and overseeing the sales of more than £100-worth of books. Not forgetting those indefatigable comperes, Greg Freeman and Rodney Wood. Thanks as always to the Lightbox for inviting us to be part of their festival, and awarding us a five-hour slot. If and when next year’s invitation comes around, I think five hours may be long enough!

Hi Keith - I have been visiting your writing and got to this which I think conveys the essence of where you are coming from. Besides plumbing the depths of despair, as in Born a Criminal, I perceive a love of life's natural wonders. Thanks Trevor

Must be the silly season. About this time last year I posted

Tennis
Dennis?

which received a lot of response. It was completely meaningless, as I suspect yours is Jason. Apologies if I am wrong.. Still, it passes the time doesn't it? Personally I don't care as I've just watched Worcester beat Gloucester so the tempus can fugit as much as it likes.

Brilliant alliteration, and though it was quite a hefty verse it was well worth the effort of reading it.
I see where Brian is coming from, and can understand why two lines could work, but I would leave it just as it is.

Cheers Kevin

I'm always up for hearing interpretation, but surely allowing a glimpse into the personal can't be a crime.

thanx for commenting on 'sonnet 91...' John - yes, I think even the die hard politically motivated are now thoroughly sick of it all. You sound surprised at me turning my hand to 'form' poetry - I think I do it more than most - I really enjoy writing to a style - sonnet is probably my favourite and most utilised form of it.
I appreciate your comments
Ian

Thank you all so much. I thought of this about two weeks ago and didn't post it then because I thought, "It's not really a poem, as much as a statement." But, in the end, every time I thought of it, it just made me smile, so hey ho.
You are right Bryan, the quotation marks are significant.
Once again thank you all so much.

Jason,
This reminds me of a one-word French poem which reads “pousse”. This is a word which was used in a game played by children when one of them wanted to get out of the game for a moment. I understood this poem to mean the (impossible) need sometimes to get out of our overwhelming lives. Always thought this was a most touching poem.
Well done,
Jeannot
