You are definitely a songwriter Damon with the natural flow and rhythm of your work
Incidentally the title reminds of a line in a Steve Miller song the joker. was that intentional or just coincidental. Either way a natty title for a super poem
Nice one

A sad but beautiful work Deb

This poem really is something else Martin, I loved reading it from start to finish. It truly is extremely beautiful and I am not adequate enough it seems to put down how I feel about it in words yet.

I shared it with your name to all my friends who indulge in poetry, I absolutely loved it.

Too right! I recall a snack bar assistant approach the counter to
serve me directly after fitting a waste bag into its receptacle...no
effort to wash her hands. I remonstrated and she actually looked
confused - as if i was being picky!!

The teacher's plight during such uneasy times, exploring new options are risky, but can always try their luck in some online work. And children can stay home joining online schools, many new ones are coming. They need online teachers as well.

Why don't you open an online international school to solve this problem?

Hehehe....?

"Mum,I want to go back to school,
I'm missing my friends they're all so cool."
"Coronavirus your teacher has got,
Stay at home you're sweating a lot."
"But mum I've just had a bath,
Your having a laugh."
"I don't want you infecting any of us,
It's not much fun having coronavirus."

that very kind of you to say Mortimer - I'm glad you liked it. I desperately try not to write to a formulae or pattern - so the more varied or off-the-wall I can get it now and again tends to throw things up in the air ?

As poet I will document
What I hear and see
There for all posterity
In my poetry

About the 20 virus plague
Which turned world upside down
Killed people in their thousands
And came from China town....

Thanks Don. Not been a big fan of over-long lines, I believe you can tell a decent line in 8 words rather than 16!

I'll get by. I'll probably write a line about grabbing the sunlight in my arms when it is fully safe for me (:

but I'm pleased with it too.

If you would like to purchase the track I have referenced here with a clip towards the end, for those that don't know, and I guess there are not many for this classic, it is

Take Five by Carmen Mcrae and the Dave Brubeck Band.

It is a piece that first aired I think, late 50's, early 60's, but still, an absolute corker of a track.

For anyone who might be offended by use of the clip, I can only say sorry but, I do feel that, yeah, it works and, what a track to tip a hat off to. Nice one Mcrae and all works Brubeck.

Thank You.

Best wishes.
