good luck with it Greg - our event on Thursday has 27 open mic readers, 9 on the reserve list and over 200 'interested' we could be testing the 100 Zoom limit ?

I don't believe it will, Ian. Zoom is lot better than nothing, but also nothing like the real thing. We all want to stand up there and project, and hear proper applause. Well done for hosting the Wigan night on Zoom - I will be trying out that experience down here in Woking next week.

Topical and terse - a timely reminder that we all need to prepare for
eventuality of the final goodbye while we can.

Your ability to write poems about so meaningless encounters and make them so comical and so well written in imagery is really awesome Ian.
Absolutely loved reading this one

Thanks for the kind comments lads.
Although I'm hosting the WOL Wigan zoom night and have been guest on a few more - I'm trying not to make it too much of a habit. I'm sure, like me, you remember when football went onto the TV big time (in my case Rugby League) and a lot of people never went back to the live experience - with falling attendances.
I sincerely hope that doesn't happen to poetry gigs - but I have my doubts ?

This poem made me laugh out loud more than once.
It was so well written and comical, I absolutely adored it.
Maybe one of the best poems I have read all week, so refreshing and funny.

Thank you, one and all. It is reward enough that the lines resonate
so positively...even more so when so many of us are "incarcerated"
by domestic circumstances at this time and our freedom is that
provided by the imagination. By way of background - this walk can
be seen on YouTube videos of Kingswear and the Daymark (the "beacon" in my poem) a local landmark. I have a vested interest
insofar that my late eldest sister saw service at the "works of war"
referred to before she eventually left the UK to marry an injured
US Army officer and live the rest of her life in Louisiana USA.
Although I seem unable to upload my folk song version here, those who are
interested can find it as the 3rd item down
under "Audio" on my WOL profile page.

Extraordinarily wacky, John. I liked the cheesecake and bread butter pudding references. And the picture of The Temptations.

Like unsuspected frogs in a plot coming to a boil.
That seems to be the case for our species everywhere from global warming to everything that threatens our extinction.
We are a stubborn bunch, capable of getting used to everything even our extinction.
Loved this one

A really beautiful poem Abdul, it gives one an overwhelming sense of hope, maybe perhaps we all have such a beautiful moorland waiting for us there,
Even those among us who aren't worthy.
Loved every verse,
Mortimer

At the end of the day the greatest question that can be asked is who are you?
To which a philosopher can fill volumes and volumes of doctrines.
A poet can write hundreds of verses
But god needed 5 words " I am what I am."
A truly wonderful poem,
One which resonates so closely to a poem I wrote a few months ago, it is almost uncanny.
Absolutely loved it!

Thanks Moon Girl and Po,
The idea of 7 major sins has always been very romantic to me, as I thought what makes a person a person is well these sins, they are what our base instinct is resorts to,
It has inspired me to write countless poems, some good, some bad, some forever forgotten.

Yes Graham.I think that moment has a real relevance in pop songs as you wait for it and that keeps you in the loop. Classical music can also build up to a recurring theme so there is a sort of peak experience, like a sweet line in poetry. Hang on to your hat!
Don, at it again with that quirky take. I'm still searching.!

Strife, Struggle and Change is the only thing constant in this world, sentiment is often misplaced
A bird singing in an empty forest might be a terrible thing, but it is then when the bird will find true happiness maybe on account of it's own song.
True happiness after all, comes undisturbed and from within
A lovely poem showcasing the bittersweet nature of change,
Mortimer

Evolution may make men as capable as Gods in million of years one thing is for certain,
so long as our bodies are comprised of flesh, and oxygen keeps us warm,
We are nothing but instruments waiting to be played by bacteria and germs infinitely smaller than us yet just as infinitely more powerful.
A beautiful poem,
Mortimer

On a more serious note about music. although I have not a musical bone in my body, the 'hook' that gets you when you hear a piece of music and think 'wow' sounds to me what you are describing here.

This took me straight back to that line from a pop song of yesteryear:
"You can't go to jail for what you're thinking..."
Or - even older -
"Four walls do not a prison make
Or iron bars a cage."
If I were judging you JC, you'd get an "absolute discharge" - if you'll
pardon the sentence! ?
