Well described with the final stanza being a thought which most people dread. Good poem
Thanks

Thanks, Graham. It has to be said that probably due to my age I do well up in odd places - so to speak - more often these days. Last time it happened was at the barber's - my first haircut in months - last summer. At the same time I seem to have developed a condition during lockdown called Dry Eyes. All very weird.

Philistines! Exactly!
Can't believe they would actually INCREASE
the advertisements instead of reducing them.
No peace for you.
Write more poetry!

This is a nicely angled write Greg. There's a slightly dystopian edge in there somewhere, with hope blended in too. I'm left feeling sad that many are thinking 'that's it' after getting the jab, not realising that nothing changes, the problem hasn't gone away. I also feel that we MUST all invest more of our resources to increase funding of the NHS. We need a Greta!
Good work.

Julie,
You are fast becoming a sage. Your poem speaks of the present and its consequences for the future, a future which is to some large extent a mystery.
Thanks

Brian,
Your strong emotional attachment to Kenya is something often felt by those of us who have lived and worked in other parts of the world. Such an experience is an education in itself. I lived in the deserts of Oman for ten years and even longer in Spain with a few years in the Caribbean. It is hard to settle back here as a part of us yearns to be back in to those places much loved and cherished. I too learned Arabic and Spanish and entered fully into the life of the world about me at the time.
Your poem touches the nerve ends of my soul as I too recall such incredible vistas and some of the best people I have ever had the joy of knowing.
Thank you for this
Keith

This one is like a time machine for me. I cannot help but get choked up with longing for those wonderful times we enjoyed there. How rich we were, and are, because of the experience of Kenya, East Africa. We spent fourteen years there -- not back and forth -- no. We lived there, learned the language, culture, food, and received and gave love from the marvelous Luyia people of western Kenya. I hope to visit there again one day before I meet our Maker.

Aisha,
This poem could easily be the power house of my soul, a place where one treats oneself to the exclusion of all else. Moments of solitude and self indulgence. Ten minutes! Aisha surely you can extend this.
Loved every word and thank you for this poem.

This poem has a sacred quality to it especially when I read the words of the third stanza as it brings to life the house focusing as if on the epicentre of a real home. The smells and the noises, those aspects which bring a place to life and identify those who live there. My grandmother´s home evokes the same memories for me. A poem with nostalgia and real meaning.
Thank you for this

The cry of humanity, a goal waiting to be achieved since time immemorial but always out of reach. Yet strive we must because there is no viable alternative to humanity´s existence. To love and accept people......surely this can´t be too much of a challenge.

I'm coming back to you Jennifer . Embarrassingly late - I seem to lost the link with WOL reminders. Fascinating school games and pursuits. I do remember fortunes, mainly a girl's option. We used to collect milkbottle tops and wire them together then donate them to some long forgotten charity.

Thanks Brian - the answer is that George Orwell's real name was Eric Blair , nor relation of Tony. Although history will remember Tony Eric was more left wing than him.
Stephen, as you say we are watched but mainly by those with commercial interests, paying reduced taxes . If Orwell could see the TV reality series he would probably turn in his grave.

Ray,
A poem which restores those images stored in some cerebral cavity which lets us see ourselves as we once were. My memories are of a motorbike and sidecar, caravan parks, paddling in rock pools and eating packed lunches. Halcyon days indeed of which the present generation know little of.
Thank you for this trip down memory lane.

Same here in the UK.. The official agency responsible actually gave
permission for ad. breaks to be increased - as if intent on annoying
us some more! And the change in YouTube has seen its videos
constantly interrupted on an increasingly irritating scale....most
moronic in those experienced in classical music videos when a
work is interrupted even as it draws to a close. Philistines!! ?
