words do travel
they change their spelling
kind of like a disguise
they look different
but still...could be recognized
in a police line-up.

At first this seemed like just another apocalyptic piece, but just when I was about to give up reading it turned into a good little comedy piece. I'm glad I carried on

On second thoughts, the complete version may be "Many a true
word is spoken in jest". The meaning being that unpalatable
realities may be "swallowed" if given a certain acceptable "taste" when uttered. Like certain medicines perhaps?!

Personally, I enjoy - even relish - the cut and thrust of words, so
readily available in the magnificent language that is English:
Its greatest exponent, arguably, being Shakespeare who could
employ it magnificently in all its many shades of meaning, inference and intent.

I think I'm poking fun at parochial attitudes I remember from school days and which I then shared 😊

Royalty has always had its share of notoriety = check the reputation of Victoria's playboy son before he became a much
loved King as Edward V11. Or the scandal of another offspring
and his alleged involvement with sexual goings-on at a male
brothel* that saw him sent out of the country. (*"The Cleveland Street Scandal"). But the institution and its ability to retain
the confidence of the people have survived, thanks to two
hugely admired long-serving queens who between them have spanned three centuries. I think Charles, like his predecessor
as Prince fo Wales, will surprise a lot of cynics and "measure
up" in the role late in his life when he wears the Crown.
P.S. The absence of any US public
figures in the firing line is worth a
raised eyebrow when assessing the
efficacy of a "justice" system that manages to focus on two from the UK
whilst ignoring their own alleged US
participants in this cause celebre.

Many thanks for the likes and for the valued comments on this piece.
My intention in writing it was to look at the possible consequences when a slightly vulnerable individual, is taken up by others, often for their looks, only to be poorly used and then discarded.
I agree with raypool that it echoes the Barrymore scandal.

Hi John, thankyou for your like and comment on my poem - The Kids home. I'm sorry for your dad. My mother and many of her siblings were raised in the Irish Catholic institutions, so I feel your dad's pain. These places were often just hell holes where kids were abused and neglected.
I myself was in a kids home - hence the poem. I was luckier than my mother.
Thanks also for the dm, very kind words indeed. Much appreciated!
