Thank you Stephen A and John for the likes.
I am also grateful to Dr Amir Khan for constantly providing me with cheerful inspiration. I am afraid the many writes I have started and not finished this week have been far too emotional and upsetting. I have found the news this week so difficult.

Yep,

I'd love to see some of those old PIRA boys processing
Afghan civilians through Kabul airport under the nose of the Taliban with the same kind of restraint and care the current boys of 16 Air Assault Bde are doing, but then again I suspect with your excellent grasp of history you'd have a different view Kevin.

Maybe revise some of the actual facts for a start.

Just to add I do not support the murderous acts of individual soldiers who break codes of conduct, nor do I support negligent successive Governments who have failed in their duty to act appropriately for all this time. There are many current serving soldiers who feel exactly the same...please do not tar them all with the same hateful brush.

Other than that it is a completely unremarkable piece of work as is demonstrated by the lack of interest shown toward it.

PS, I personally witnessed the carnage in Omagh, we can all blame the other and blanket blame at that, it doesn't help.

K.J. You've caught me out. I wrote this some years ago when life seemed simpler (no Covid, crackpot leaders - well, not so many).
It contains some elements of parody, I suppose, but as to who it represents, I don't know. I can say that it's no one who contributes to this blog. Thanks a lot for liking the poem.

Hello DK. Not with your last message, Where did I say that some men are better than others? Agree that all men suffer, but the ones who have been through a war or from the consequences of one, perhaps even more. Am notoriously as thick as a post, in an all male family, even the dog, the gaslighting is always on, so perhaps I've missed something? Can you explain, if you haven't been arrested for doing your wife in?!

Leon, you make an important point, and thank you for liking the poem. Yes, the freedom to criticise and demonstrate is a vital part of democracy and I would not dream for one moment of limiting it in any way. In fact, I would defend anyone's right to express views I do not agree with.

This poem gives my personal opinion on people of who demonstrate against covid restrictions, vaccinations etc (including the recent weekend protests against the health pass in France). I think they are wrong and that some (not all) of them are selfish and dishonest. Of course, in liberal democracies people have a perfect right to express all sorts of views. However, I don't have to agree with them and am exercising my right to say so in this poem.

Good discussion and thanks again.

Julie, Nigel, Holden, Keith - thankyou for the likes.

It's interesting Stephen that whatever the issue, those demonstrating believe they are right and are doing their best to persuade others to support their cause. If we don't support their cause does it mean they are wrong? Does it mean they are ignorant or unable to recognise the truth i.e. our truth?

BTW I've had my jabs. So I may not agree with the anti-jabbers but I respect their right to choose. And proud to live in a country where freedom can be practised.
