Comparing two of my poems 
one from last year, one from this week
Football matches is the theme 
but the similarities are weak

One tells a sorry tale
of sadness, disappointment and dismay
The second is for the lionesses 
and the match played on Sunday 

Last year the Mens Euros result 
achieved the worst kind of news 
How three young fooball players
had been subjects of racial abuse 

Fast forward one year on
the difference is quite remarkable 
The womens team won the Euros 
something once thought impossible 

The women brought football home
no one would deny this much is true 
Whilst watching the news this week 
it’s clear they brought so much more home too
