Thanks Jeff. Even if it can't keep us forever young, let's hope and pray that laughter might be the best medicine! Paul

Thanks to you all! We each have to approach the Festive Season in our own way, and I'm happy to vicariously
enjoy other folk's pleasures without feeling the need to
sacrifice my self-sufficient solitude in the process.

If you were in Wiltshire, it's "Devizes". I lived in the county
as a happy drug and stress-free 50s lad, but I wouldn't
fork up the "fayre" to Glastonbury...even if the great
Johnny Cash was still around to grace its stage.

David, you capture so well the scourge of modern times as Jeff mentioned, vanity - but also the ignorance of self-obsessed 'beautiful' people who can't see beyond themselves. If only they knew...! Paul

Thank you so much Raj, Patricia, Ray and Jemima for your kind messages and thoughtful words. I'll tell you the story behind this, the very first thing I wrote in 1990. Driving, alone, for a holiday in Scotland, I felt a sudden compulsion to write something. I stopped the car and these words came out pretty much as you have read them. What is ironic, is that that night (5.8.90) I met my partner who I am still with 26 years later. It would be interesting to hear if you or others have experienced anything similar. Isn't life a mystery! Paul x

The two guys were just into normal stuff....but hey ho...to each his own......hope that clears things up?.........Jeff.....

I don't want to fully read this, in case it's in your book Rick. I just know it is the real McCoy and f....ing brilliant. A classic etching about the time we both went through. I need to write about pissing about in Stonehenge , in the 60s till open to everyone.

A noble sentiment Paul and a well balanced view. I think if you try to break this down, there is a lot of living to do to reach the calm and considered philosophy here. More often we find life is a lot harder and suffering awaits us first.
(Only my opinion).

Whatever happened to romance, Jeff? No comment can really do this justice, as it stands alone amongst the proud detritus of the human condition. Mind you, if it turns you on, why not? It's not the sort of fun and games most of us have tried, and there is a sort of indelicacy to it, but having said that, there is no real offence in it for me, so good on you!! I think the smell alone would put me off thanks.

Beautifully balanced and clear, David - a whole state of mind and a tribute to the vagaries of advertising. A very fine piece of work, with no extra padding.
Especially effective is the triptych form of the lines.

Four bolts of a tyre
The salesday
Got chastened
On owners sight
He ran away.//
