I feel the only positive that we have now, are the charity shops and recycling.

I managed this without the use of any narcotic stimulants whatsoever. (Well, a cup of Earl Grey. But that’s all).

Hi Jane, I started writing a comment which turned into a poem so thanks for the inspiration! Your 60's dressing up box certainly spilled over into the 70's and I think punk and the New Romantics were perhaps the last of the fun times for youth fashion - but then you and I are both biased aren't we?!
I do think though that fashion became a lot more commercialised from the early 80's onward and the homemade element that had existed from and before the 50's simply disappeared. Even fancy dress costumes nowadays are all off the peg and made in China. Simply ghaaaaastly daaaaarling!!
Col.

My first reaction was that this was very funny. But then I realized that this is truth and there are people who are living lives like yours...or not living. Acknowledging and accepting that you are an alcoholic is a difficult step, I hear. I know I wouldn't know. But you are in a position that others can't get to. And hope is not a strategy. You might find it helpful to read and not just write. Good luck. ? Isurugi

Hi Nick, you don´t have to make it rhyme. You are a poet, don´t underestimate your ability. Pissed or sober your talent is evident. It won´t last forever if you are determined to write and keep writing. Stick at it mate. Thanks again for a good piece of work. Keith

Being a fly fisherman, you had me at the title!
Evenings are easily the best
"the warmth of the sun gleaming off the lake
the peace and tranquillity of the still air
the hovering hum and dart of damsel flies
the plop of a fish some distance away
the noise of the reeds in the breeze"
Who ever needs to catch anything?

You old cynics - your imagination has stirred me from a reverie into dark and gloomy waters. Quite right too - there should be a knock and trouble brewing. I do have a sentimental side, but the atmosphere has to be right. Thank you one and all, Col. David, Douglas, Des and Suki for some nice takes !
Thank you for your likes, David and Pat.

Thanks Colin. I'd been planning to read this at my local open mic last year, and quite by chance a friend who was up before me made a comment about how ironic it is that no word rhymes with "poem". So I got a big laugh when I got to no.60!

Douglas, the words Mea Culpa remind me of the preparatory sentencces before the Mass. Our guilt remains with us but repentance is the only key to bring reconciliation. We all harbour such wrong doings yet this poem deals with memory which certainly does linger. Well done and thank you. Keith

Thank you so much Martin. I do subscribe to the view that, as poets, it helps immensely when a poem's focus is close to one's heart and one the poet has experienced. Our work gains clarity and empathy thereby, and hopefully communicates a personal experience in ways readers can process from their own lives.
Best wishes,
Chris

Hi David,
Thank you sincerely. My twin brother (Paul) is fully recovered and back to good health. Crises such as this one seem to bring forward things about one's self that we are often only dimly aware of.
Cheers,

Well, not everyone has the same thoughts and emotions about their own work, surely? Especially if you think you have better poems more deserving of the praise anyway.

Anyway I know I can't probe a writer when he wants to leave something open ended ?
