All politicians tell lies it seems,
Relying on our hopes and dreams;
Successive PMs did the same
Treating truth as a fool's own game
Giving parliament's sovereignty
Away with no mandate we could see ,
And now "sovereignty" appears in use
To defy what the voting majority choose,
Like some fool's gold its new minted wealth
Now pays for the years of deceit and stealth. ?

I can't believe my cotton sox!
A poem devoted to me
I feel all warm and glowy-like
All full of frippery

I am a little puzzled Fish
About this Gladys chick
It seems she wants to upstage
My Alice, her picnic

I've heard that Lite Relief contains
Far too much sugar-sweet
It's pastime is teeth-rotting
Take care when it you eat......

I thought Boris was beaut
With tousled hair so blondish-like
I thought him rather cute

You've gone mucked up my image John
Boris, you say has shooted
The people of the U of K
But I still think he's cuted.......

Jest joking. I lie not.

When I say love Ray I wouldn't want you to think this means something deeper than it should. I mean it in an esoteric sense...a word I don't understand the meaning of but will look it up shortly.

I've been out tonight and met a few friends...Stella, Miguel and John Smith.

Brilliantly funny with excellent rhyming. It reminds me of an old film called " The Out Of Towners" who on a visit to a big city fall into every calamity imagineable. Well done. A great poem.

Jon,

A splendid piece of poetry which, although brief, is concise in its message. The line " A voiceless legion tethered to anxiety " is an absolutely incredible description of the marginalised and despondent. As I read this poem my mind was drawn to the plight of Jewish people in Europe during the days of Hitler´s tyranny. This poem leaves me breathless without adequate words to do it justice.

Very well done. One of the best poems I have read this year.
Thank you

Keith

Well-penned Laura. I love the way you precis the whole process of fabrication, as we invent and reinvent our lives - brevity is the soul of wit!

telling and retelling, embellishing

unconsciously; truth became fable,

myth, became passwords,

indelible, inked in the mark of a man

Thanks Devon! Don't you just love rocknrollas? I'll say that though, for a rock an roller he's surprisingly humble to the point of shyness. He looks kinda nervous, doesn't he?
Loved the interview and the song. Now it's not exactly on the same subject but it reminded me of a piece I wrote a while ago, called "Consume or be consumed" . It's mostly about consumerism.
You were right I enjoyed the video and especially the song! ?

There's a strong sense of tension here Tommy, in having all that behind you like a denial, but a ghostly feeling of longing I often see in your work. A suspension of realisation that feels like a betrayal.

Very poetically satisfying especially the having to share someone in this way.

Fantastic imagery, Tommy. Choosing only to show the sunset, the waves and footprints was a genius stroke, and provides the foundation for the final stanza. The labor put into this poem is evident, but the read is silky smooth. Thanks.

Precisely. That complicates things even more! If perception of reality was obscure, misunderstood, intentionally misled and tampered with before, imagine how distorted it must be now.
Makes you think? Plus you can trust virtually nobody so one may feel the need to get wrapped in themselves, to keep everyone at arm's length. Ergo we learn to live alone, worse yet as loners.
Isolation of the individual grows fatter and vaster until it becomes alienation as a social phenomenon that includes or rather "excludes"everyone.
"Almost friends but all alone" like the "Say Something" song by James says!

"Isolation for my salvation,
Equals
Alienation for the nation"

As I would rather put it... in a literary incantation amidst a session
of obsession and elation for alliteration ??
(Such intense gratification!)

I think right on the money. Yet now, that dynamic extends for beyond the immediate neighborhood, into who we want to pretend to be, not as easily sussed out.

Thanks Devon! That's an interesting question...I think definitely! TV and before that radio and before that the press...Politics, modeling, business... Even the housewives in the neighborhood, either it was recipes or fashion they all had to struggle to stay in the surface... The frickin' struggle for evolution, survive or get extinct, eat or be eaten, be the Aplha or die fighting... Crawl out of the ocean and grow legs and lungs before that other fish does! Yeap, definitely an ancient thing!
What do you think? ?
