It's a simile Brian: "Dressed up like the twats that they were." So, maybe, it's the aspiring parents and grasping private schools who are the real twats. In that sense, I can agree with you.

This is a tragedy.
A report shows that the police recently were given a new directive to be much tougher on domestic crime.
In the past they have been a bit lenient and often the 'victim' changes their mind, maybe on several occasions, but now the police can go ahead anyway.
It seems harsh that Caroline was fired from her role as presenter, even though she was still technically innocent.

MC., and Po,
I would have been about twenty one at the time. When I reached Bristol there was a London express about to leave. This took me to London where I took a taxi to Charing Cross thence to Ashford. I made it just before 23.59. A friend on guard duty asked if I had a good trip. I grimaced and said yes.
Thank you for your interest and comments.

Of course £40k is a barrier but whether parents are rich or have to make sacrifices to afford it it's completely wrong to call the kids twats. It is disrespectful and smacks of resentment. After all, we all do the best we can for our kids and grandkids don't we John and I wouldn't like mine to be called twats because of it.

Of course! I forgot Eton and Harrow are packed full of underprivileged children. School fees of £40.000 a year are no barrier at all.

I lived approximately midway between Ruislip Lido and Harrow on the Hill. Not all the Harrow kids came from really wealthy families...some families made, still make, huge personal sacrifices for the sake of their kids' education. Calling them twats John suggests resentment and jealousy.
Of course at the lido the wearing of swimwear is classless.

John,
as I read this poem my thoughts drifted to the Patriarch of Constantinople. I think his name is Bartholomew, who lives in a confined area with a seminary which has no students and a declining Christian population within the precincts of his home. Repeated help has been sought from the Turkish authorities but nothing is forthcoming. A sad situation and the remnants of a bygone Christian age.
Thank you for this
Keith

The journey of imagination is always a roller coaster ride worth taking. The exploration of Don's theme , not quite obscene park ( expect possibly the occasional nursery rhyme) is surely worth a tour for the curious poet with a twinkle in their eye.
