Contributions sought and gratefully accepted, of course...to which I have contributed.- and there are also commercial avenues to add to
revenue..
My point is about essential priorities at this time when, even now,
we read of thousands of pounds awarded to successful participants in
poetry competitions and suchlike. It is difficult to reconcile the past "penury of poetry" with the ££££££ cash that seems to be in the coffers in
support of "the arts". Nice work if you can get it...as the song goes.
If you're alive! .

Ths is something of a "found poem" isn't it, taking off from the original as Tennyson did with the Charge of the Light Brigade, no rump-di-dump here, very touching, effective.

This one slipped under the radar a little Greg.

I think you've captured how we resort to routines as a sort of safety blanket, to make sense of stuff. It wasn't until all our impending holiday arrangements and meal out bookings had been cancelled that I felt I knew what was going on.

As I suspect with you, there's nobody else you'd sooner be marooned with.........

keep well old friend, look for the light

IT is, very much, my pleasure Keith. My idea is simple: the past, its rights and wrongs, its people and its places, never fades, to those with eyes to see. Thank you very much indeed for your continued support over the years. It is very much appreciated.

The imagination is stirred by this poem as one is drawn back in time and reminded of what was once of importance and replaced in history by something less tangible. For me it speaks of a continuity which cannot be eradicated. A little abstruse but I hope I have interpreted the poem and done it some honour. It is also a poem which takes the reader to where the writer's mind is.

Thank you for this

Keith

Thanks Victoria. I'll be honest, it doesn't match my mood at the moment. Perhaps that's why I wrote it. Life seems to be folding in on us, and even if we're housebound, the birds are not. I suppose the phrase, "Free as a bird," has rarely been so apposite. ❤

Abdul,

This poem resonates with me as an ex serviceman who has witnessed much of what you write. Many ex servicemen are sleeping rough in doorways largely due to PTSD or an inability to readjust to civilian life. On 11 November every year we stand at our war memorials and echo the words "We will remember them" but in reality we forget them.

I remember the Twist and Shout EP, John. It got to about number four in the top ten, an amazing achievement for an EP. But not so amazing considering it was the Beatles. PS I also sat on at least one of my dad's 78s. It may have been Gracie Fields singing 'Come Back to Sorrento'.

It's 'have a nice night' here now. Which I'm doing getting sozzled on reising. If any spelling errors start appearing in comments you will understand why.

Of course this 'have a nice day' is simply automatic, like a record. And when a checkout chick says this 'to me' while looking to the next customer.... Don't get me started......
