Goodbye Dante (our dog)

entry picture

Sometimes you have to push the bully love aside,
out of the way, elbow and shoulder,
so necessity can see through what love fears most,
loss and the damage of absence.

To see what needs to be done
no matter love’s protests,
though they are not unheard.

Love and necessity, formidable forces,
will eventually reunite
as confederates in purpose,
but gently and in time

Sure to resonate with anyone who has had a dog in their lives -
and with many who haven't! My sister has owned dogs for most of her adult life and a bearded collie called Sue was one that
inspired me to write some lines for my sister when that much
loved animal passed on in her arms. The tribute began....
At times, alone, I see her face,
I hear her on the stair;
I hold my arms out to embrace my Sue
And she'll be there.

A great poem at a sad moment, Mike.
The conflict, and ultimate reconciliation, of love and necessity are tenderly described here.
Sorry for your loss.
