'Some girls cry when you squeeze them
and i resemble action man some days' are
great lines for me Pete.

I used to play with my brothers action man. He was allowed nowhere near my Tressy :-)

Janet, this is really, really good. I didn't equate colour-dyes with actual 'false colour' but I could be wrong. For me, it seemed as though the idea was far more encompassing.

Peter would like to point out that he has never played with a Tiny Tears doll. I say this as some take my poems as actual experience, they are not. They are emotional ideas, played out with poetry.

Hi Tommy,
An interesting thought - but I'm not sure that the statistics bear out your assertion! Being the somewhat curious and pedantic git that I am I did a quick count up and calculation on the ratio of males/females registered on this site. According to Paul's latest post:

http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/newsgroupview.php?NewsThreadsID=178&NewsGroupsID=29

it seems that there are 567 poets registered. By my reckoning (and it's quite difficult - allowing for non-gender-specific profiles and possible aliases) it would appear that the ratio is approximately 360/200 men/women, or alternatively 1:0.55. Of course this could mean lots of things - even that there are more women poets out there, but that men have bigger egos! Surely not? :-)
Regards,
A.E.

Tommy I think this is powerful It captures so many facets, time, place, relationships, in a simply stated short format. As other observers have noted of similar poems, it's a short story in itself. I hope Lizzie liked it.

I like this poem Janet,I easily identify with your words. I hope you don`t mind but maybe if you replace friend in two lines with she /he your poem would be more emotive.

" She/he departed in a different way."
"Before she/he departed---
Punctuation Janet, helps the flow.

Hi Sian,
I haven't seen you around for a while. Came late to this one. The last line is a very telling observation, I guess there are as many kinds of love as there are people. We don't always get the kind we expect - or want. Thanks for your comments on my scribbles, the are always very welcome and appreciated.

Well I think you are a very honest cunt. You identify very well one of the deepest roots of strife in the male/female relationship. I'm not sure if it doesn't stem from our animal origins though - men are the hunters and 'dissemenators', women the careres and nest builders - not really the best combination for a lifelong partnership. It would be great if men could raise the game a bit - good luck to you Captain.

Very good Pete, also wasted tears.... should always leave old baggage behind once the train has left the station.
I think Anthony, your idea has already been used in a film - The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, taken from a poem by Pope - Eloisa to Abelard -

'How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd '

You're right in that our experiences make us who we are - don't know though that necessarily makes us all we should/could/ought to be! .. if that makes sense.
Good stuff, as ever, Pete.

Hi Barrie,
I'm glad that someone thought to write on the passing of a remarkable man. I hadn't read Andrew Motion's poem until yours prompted me to do so. I have to say that I liked it - but it didn't have the power for me of the Kipling you so admirably and aptly quote. I remember watching the Albert Hall Festival of Remembrance with my Grandfather when I was a child, and him telling me how a few of the old men there had fought in the Boer War, and how there would soon be none of them left. Harry Patch's passing is another of those moments - for all of us. An eloquent reminder.

A.E.

Great fun. I would have scrubbed the last line.
I have this nagging feeling that a lover 'two miles down the road' should be code or a euphemism.
I am reminded of 'The Glums': . . . "just you and me and that couple over there on the verge".
I trust your name and photo are bogus?

Despite such fine ideas and the obvious desire to make a good poem , I find this still more like an exercise than a finished product. Tighten it up with exactly the right words that basically scan consistently and rhyme well. Weak rhyme should be used only sparingly.

Hello Cynthia and thanks for your comment on ''the healer'' poem.
Truth is i'm all out of steam right now and can't be bothered any more. Telling is what i do and if it isn't good enough then maybe i shouldn't be here at all but i doubt you've seen the last of me because i actually enjoy writing ''performance'' poetry and my technique is slowly but surely improving.
I do enjoy reading between the lines of ''page'' poetry but as for writing it? Well, i leave that to the ones who are best at it. :-)

I've enjoyed your recent blog posts and will continue to read. Thanks again,
Janet.
