WOW, what can I say to that... You show alot of emotion in your thoughts and bring them across quite strongly. You explain life as you find it... Well done! ;-) BY the way, I was commenting on your 'sample'.

Another good one, Lisa. Your comments on mine are appreciated, but I'm not commenting just cos you have. I particularly like the way the language and structure forces the pace to slow as each stanza ends emphasising the awkwardness between the two people.

Hi Mark

There was a discussion about poetry-linked quotes back in December-January.

http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/newsgroupview.php?NewsThreadsID=1139

The only definition, as such, in the string is the Robert Frost one quoted by John Aikman -
"Poetry is what gets lost in translation"

But there's a few gems in the rest of it.

This is deep - one of those, "there's more to this than meets the eye" poems. The first verse sets the tone, the second and third hold truths that are sad and have an air of resignation. Great write.

This is a sample poem from my new book "Gringo on the Chickenbus". Good eh? The book is 59 pages, very professionally produced, and beautifully illustrated by my partner Robbie Burns. It is available to buy for a mere £6.50 (including P&P) - just send me an email to Robbie.tim@btinternet.com and I'll reply with details of where to send a cheque to.

IF ONLY PEOPLE WERE:
`poring over maps`
`ancient manuscripts`
piecing together clues`
or `unified and collective`

(it would completely ruin the irony of your
`The dawn of a heroic new age`)

Good work!

Tom, I have been intending to thank you for your comment on my 'O Sweet Confusion", your high praise that it reminded you of Basho. Those lines are among my favourites in all my works.

I greatly enjoy the writing of Haiku and Tanka too, for I find the 'prescribed' syllable structure very stimulating, if I choose to use it. With haiku I always have to ask myself: Where does egotism interfere with sincerity? Cinquains and Diamante are fabulous forms also, in their very structured brevity.
