TWICE BLESS`D

PEGGY

You ask me how it was she beguiled

My love her love to crave?

She only fixed her hair and smiled

And took my heart for slave.

For it was such a lovely smile,

So wonderful to see,

That it seemed – for one brief while –

Her soul smiled out at me.

We`re wed now, and my grateful heart

Grows gladder every day.

And that I`ll never from her part

Is all the prayer I pray.

(Sadly, she died young)

And life became difficult

until

YVONNE

I watched her for a long, long while,

Dancing with a lithely grace,

Wondering:  `Did she never smile`?

This lady from the far off race.

Then suddenly, like daybreak beaming,

Ivory through a forest gleaming,

Laughter - lightening her face -

Spread sunshine through a shady place.

And sent one shaft, like Cupid`s dart

Clean through the sinews of my heart!

(Who said that lightening never strikes the same place twice)

I enjoyed this, Harry, the delightful sentiments, and the brisk metric style of rhyme and rhythm.

Poem was a cracker again too.
I think you could go into business writing poems for frustrated boyfriends with lover's balls to recite to their girlfriends - I'm sure they'd work better than a bunch of flowers.
