Hi Colin,
I remember being astounded in 2000 when I saw "Eternity" in sixty-foot tall letters on the Bridge. I thought 'Now you've really arrived Arthur' (he died in 1967). His sheer tenacity in reaching so many people went way beyond obsession. I believe it was Australia's largest and most visible creative artifact up to that time, and will surely be hard to beat around these parts. Antony Gormley's "Angel of the North" at Gateshead is a more permanent British analogue.
Chris

Jon, Colin begins his comment by saying that there is a little bit of us all incoperated into this poem. How true. When I about twelve I went to Fleetwood with my Mum and Dad where we stayed in what was called a Flatlet, which was a self catering flat. We could not afford a hotel. The Flatlet was very close to the pier where it was my delight to play on the one arm bandits. This poem as with so many of your other poems is highly evocative of days past. What brings it to light is your vivid memory for detail. Thank you Keith

Interesting story Chris, the repetition of his one word graffiti reminded me of how Aboriginal rock paintings are regularly repainted, the message in effect repeated over generations and kept alive. And there is a sense of that continuation with the word being emblazoned on the bridge. I love stories like this as they really fire my imagination. Thanks for posting. Colin.

It seems that everything and everyone is marketed as a brand including rock groups, which is probably nothing new.

That's so nice that you took the trouble to check my profile, thank you Cynthia. I hope in a small way it fleshes out what i'm generally trying to say on WOL! After a couple of years at this lark I am still surprised by lovely comments and try to offer a spark to other writers. We need to make a daisy chain and dance around poetry after all.

Thanks Jennifer; nice to see a new contributor! I'm glad you liked my unusual poem - I wasn't very confident with it, but it seemed to satisfy my warped humour. Interesting how Poe wrote poetry with a certain flavour. David often makes penetrating comments based on his own experiences of life and I do feel there is a validity to it but thanks for making the observation.

HI folks. This idea came about due to my son's daughter just going to university - they are on their own and came over bringing their angst with them! Palpable really.
Thanks you Cynthia. Well observed of you to point out the randomness - I suppose I must have got that by osmosis!
It's good of you to comment David in view of what you say and a compliment of course. As for Garden centres, I seem to have touched a nerve - I find them mind blowingly nondescript and samey. I feel sorry for myself at all times on entering.
Thanks for the list Philip - that about covers everything.
It wasn't quite the vibe I was aiming at, but you make a strong case for a possible heart attack. As for alzheimers, some older friends of ours just emigrated saying it was "an adventure before dementia."
Isn't Jeremy aging Suki - have you noticed? State of mind is key in preventing age, so you make a fine point. I think room 101 for garden centres everybody.
Kevin and Ryn thank you both for liking the poem.
Thanks all. Ray

Thanks Cynthia. ? its not to be taken literally at all but in all honesty I was trying really hard not to laugh out loud in the dead of night when I wrote it.
I was just expressing frustration with a few friendships/situations. I'm not even in a relationship ?
Glad you liked it I had a good chuckle writing it and reading it still makes me smile.
Looking forward to reading your work.
And thanks Ryn I'm glad you liked it as well?

Absolutely brilliant Keith! I thought it was just me who wants to be 18 all the time. What you explain here is so true and a smile from someone in a certain way really cheers the soul. Many thanks for this I will keep it nearby, always to remind me that’s it’s not odd to be looking for smiles and glances to keep me alive! Keep up the great work here. Love it.
