One Aspen

Aspen grove
Separate trunks
Thrust skyward
Shaking golden leaves
Whispering tambourines
I cannot see the forest
For this tree

Separate bodies
Milling about
Shaking hands
Whispering gossip
I no longer see the selves
For this humanity

Hi Eric,

Love the phrase "whispering tambourines". Nice poem!

And thank you for the feedback you left on my "Telepathic Parrots.." poem yesterday.

Cheers!
Suki

maybe try copy and paste from elsewhere rather than typing direct if that's what you're doing Eric.

I do like aspens. I came across stands of them on my travels across the US last year notably on the drive up to Independence Pass in Colorado near their namesake city. The light filtering through the silver and black flecked trunks was truly arresting.

I stopped to photograph them and noticed that people had carved names and images into some of the trunks, the ones unlucky to have grown up by the side of the pull in. They gave the appearance of being somewhat totemic and left me in two minds as to whether or not I liked this 'art' of human tattooing on nature's skin.

alas I was a little early in the season to catch the turn of colour in the leaves from green to yellow and red. Thanks for posting this Eric and good luck with your line breaks. Colin

I don't know why my line breaks are not appearing correctly. They look ok in the editor...
