Your way of presenting the audio - in rhythm with the words
that describe the journey - is inspired and adds
considerably to the written content. Top decision!

Hugh/Keith - most appreciative of your comments. It may
be me but there are times when I feel there is some
orchestrated campaign to keep us in a constant state of
agitation and feel somehow responsible for everything
that is going on in the world today...perhaps a part of
the "globalisation" that is such a popular feature of news
items these days.

The K&WVR is also a cracking ride but I think the NYMR has the edge.

Well done on POTW

Hi Suki
I didn't actually consider it to be a song lyric at the time but as read it again , I think you could be right. I often find that some of my pieces turn out in a similar vein. Just need to find a melody writer . Thanks for commenting much appreciated

and thanks to Anya for liking

Hi Keith
You don't tell us who this guy is or what his crime was (rightly so).
You speak as though you are in a dilemma (not knowing whether or not to visit him) but I think your mind is already made up. Because of your religious beliefs and kind hearted nature, you will go. You will offer some kind of forgiveness and comfort, then you yourself will carry some of his burden.

Life is so much easier when you are like me, and have a heart of stone..

Douglas and Ray - thanks guys. You're right about the smell, Ray. If they could bottle it as scent they would make a fortune. The Railway Children, though, I'm not so sure. I always thought it was the Keighley and Worth Valley.

Hi Brian. Your'e right there, but I'd rather say that i'm not happy for him, as I don't subscribe to that way of life, so I portrayed him as more of a victim than he would consider himself. (poetic injustice).

HI David. Here is a dilemma: I invented him as both a mason and a mayor (is that possible); it seems rather logical to me, but not sure of the protocol. If he is both, his wardrobe must be sizeable. Either aspiration fits his type I reckon. Your assessment of stagnation is spot on IMO. But they wouldn't know that would they?

Thanks Martin. I laboured over details- I love the idea of semi dressing, as there is something faintly ridiculous in it, a sort of intrusion of honesty into a farce.

Cheers Suki. Glad you enjoyed that line, which was like a big interruption in the thought pattern. I know quite a few masons (a la family)and have found them pretty much self seeking with a soupcon of hypocrisy thrown in . I have tried a bit of amdram, and I know it can inflate the ego betimes.

Thanks additionally Col and Pat for the likes.

Love to all. Ray

Definitely a feel good poem John, Who could resist the hot flush of a proper steam loco, with those wide spaces! Also the line was used for the Railway Children. To think those A4s used to work out of Kings Cross on the long hauls!

Good luck with it. Having done likewise with a recently
published novel, my primary memory is the proof reading
I had to perform to ensure all was accurately presented
on each page. The use of the word "bare" and the omission of "h" in the word "with" (your first line above) reminded me
just how hard it could be at times but it is part of the
process towards success in print. Hang in there!

Great poem Suki.
All the chaos and tragedy coming into our room via the TV screen.
Sometimes they warn us it might upset, other times it's carefully edited.
Sometimes presented like a Soap.
And all the personal misery undocumented.

Dear Ray, John and David,

Genuinely humbled by the feedback for this. All I can say is many thanks!

By the way John, your comment:

Unintended consequences and the tangling of time pull us around like a full washing line on a windy day in Grimsby.

Now, if that isn't a great title for a poem I have no idea what is!

Funnily enough, Susie is my mother's name, and I
chose Suki as my pen name for my Blogger blog as I wanted something silly and memorable..

Cheers again gents!

The emptiness of the ritual; climbing the greasy pole. "The lodges", allusion to the freemasons, and all their weirdness. It's Groundhog Day for them both:

she is hoovering lightly to kill empty time..

Brilliant line, Ray.

I enjoyed your tale of Ronnie Kray, Mark, thanks for passing it on. So much has changed. That was really their territory, but influxes of all races has re-defined the area. They were the days of the "geezers" almost passed into legend. I for one enjoy the vibe, though some of their associates were disreputable to say the least. For instance Lord Boothby and procurers of rent boys for the mob. Incidentally, I met Ronnie's driver, Checker Berry, from a family of boxers. He became a ticket tout in the 90s. Now passed on.
