Liked this. Great rhyming too - I think it is necessary to make footsteps of your own - even making mistakes - otherwise you will never be able to make your own decisions. If they are your own, even if later revealed wrong, you did at least make them. Also it's not to say that decisions other people make for you will work.

Nice writing. More people have been killed in the names of various religions than for any other reason I would think!

The Romans only travelled regularly from April to October on 'Mare Nostrum', and they did try to hug the coastline when possible. It is also suffering greatly from plastic pollution, being an enclosed sea.
Great writing. Jennifer

MC. such a short poem but it said so much.
I so agree with you - children should be taught humanist values - they are relevant to every one.

Well, this is very true Brian, it does. I wouldn't say that you have to, but nevertheless I did and though I wouldn't necessarily say I'm happier for it, I would say I'm probably wiser for it.
But let me be clear, wiser, not necessarily wise. Only a fool thinks themself wise. And to be fair, I did find my way back to them when I was ready.?

Cheers Brian. I've been trying to find a way to honour him for years. He was my best mate 'back in the day' and he's sorely missed.

It seems to be accepted that to get on in life you have to put a lot of distance between you and your friends and family. Maybe...but you and they end up being unhappy in the process, so it makes you think doesn't it?

M:C.,
A brief but good and relevant poem. Few religionists seem to realise that God gave us brains to think with. We are not called to be robots. Thank God for the enquiring mind and free thinkers.

It does make you wonder as to whether some people are naturally heavy of heart as well as tread. However it never ceases to amaze me regardless of build some people appear to more naturally tread lighter than others.
a good and well constructed poem.

It is interesting to watch the progress at the top. Clive James appears to be out of the running for the Oxford seat, respects due to Imtiaz Dharker for backing off from an onerous office, putting "poems first", Alice Oswald should be on the shortlist for Oxford and congratulations, of course, to Simon Armitage on his new post. If our Stu Buck can lay off Philip at their next run in, I can see him ascending to high office: who knows? Definitely one to watch.
