Really liked this. Presumably you saw the film? The photography was fantastic, also the actor who played Vincent. I didn't know that there was any suspicion of his being accidentally shot, as in the film version. Beautiful, moving language.

Surely she didn't expect much after one night? Perhaps it had happened once too often! Would have been worse if you had gone on seeing her just to have a handy bonking partner. At least she knew you were to strike off her list. Think Brian will call you out?

Thank you very much, afishamongmany. I've just this morning redrafted it (4th time around) and though it's turned out a bit more obliquely than I'd been trying for, I think it'll grow on me. I'm really glad you like it too. That means a lot to me.

Great writing. Intelligent use of words. Do off-script dummies spoil the atmosphere? You are deceived to believe you succeed - etc. Very clever - an allegory of modern life with TV as the vehicle?

Mate, if it's any consolation, I spent about a decade of my life from mid-late teens to mid-late twenties pretty much driven solely by lust, it was essentially just one long drunken orgy. Mind you, we always tried to be honest and respectful towards each other.
Some might say you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your princess.
I'd say it's more like, you might have to kiss quite a few princesses before you find your own.

I like to think that the lass in question will find happiness elsewhere.
The moral from these lines is patently clear
Remain sober and caring - and stay off the beer!

How very topical! And JC you're just the guy to put it into sharp focus...this constant obsession today with self and its trivial pursuits.
Musn't grumble has become "must worry" nowadays and it seems
to be catching - like some disease! I blame the global media for
its endless stream of doom and gloom. ?

It's hard to remain deadpan
When in dire need of a bedpan...
There's always a time
For amusing rhyme -
And writing about when you care to pee
Can also be good therapy! ?
I understand where this is coming from. I'd much rather have this sort
of care from a detached professional than from someone close.

I am so glad that you "Stepped away from your comfort zone and shared your work". ( quote from profile)
This is a very thoughtful poem and a vivid description of a place and an event that i am never likely to see, but now i have.
Thank you,
Dorothy
PS., 'the perfect poem' is one that we would all love to write but - perfect for who?
To my humble and untrained mind, a poem should reach out and touch, convey emotion and always leave the reader with something to think about,
You have done that.

I hear ya!
Yes, life will continue, despite the crumbling of our worlds. When we fall, it's to seek comfort of loved ones to help lift us up again. We have all been hurt or will eventually. We all have had to ask for and receive another's forgiveness too. It's all a part of life. I wish that it didn't hurt so but it does.
