A wonderful blend of nostalgia horror and humour , a real showstopper John. Is the guillotine a real item?

Todd, sadly, can't begin to compare with the other candidates. What would shake up the poetry world would be to have a woman or a gay man in this post; someone with a solid reputation for their work in all areas.

'slipping from my embrace and fly round the kitchen'
wonderful and a richly deserved POTW
Congratulations

Thank you Dorothy for reading and commenting! I'm glad you like it!
If you ask me, the whole point of that piece is in the, albeit vague and probably not perfectly crafted, dialogues. That's where the important things are said, the plot fragment is just a tool, the setting.
But then again the interpretation of the reader, most of the times, proves to be far deeper and way more interesting that the writer's actual approach!
I think if you knew more, you'd find nothing other than an overworn fairy tale, much like Snow White...
As much as I love fairy tales; that, I believe you damp your imagination!
Thank you!?
Mae

Delightful, deceptively simple poem, Trevor.
The move from description to the 'fledgling' image is so apt, and everyone who's held an infant in their arms can relate to that feeling.

Thanks for your approval, Don.
(so wittily, in rhyme!)
Such feedback serves to spur me on.
- inspiring, every time.
I've also read some stuff of yours.
They 'rang a bell' or two.
Your writing style deserves applause
(I've asked ..... "Do I? You do!").
For when I’m (sometimes!) so obsessed,
my work just ‘doesn’t flow’.
I do my best, then ‘take the test’
- my ‘peers’ should let me know!
But, after all, it should be fun
(I use this as ‘a sign’)
Yet, if it ain’t, don't worry Don
- just ‘page’ Nurse Caroline! ?

my favourite line
"a coil of sound trembles there"
it so perfectly describes 'my' Blackbird on the topmost branch of the tree by my house.
