I'm not a pet owner myself, but I have cat (and dog)owner friends. In fact, one just put up her Christmas tree, and has found one of her cats in the middle of it!

Lovely! Cats are so funny sometimes. When we were in a rented flat on hol, I always found a wee bird or a dead rat on the doormat in the morning! Luckily I get up before my husband, who would have had a fit. My friend has a white cat, also a cat flap. When she came back from her hol she found many different colours of cat dander, so it had invited friends in! She fixed that by putting a micro-chip on the flap and her pet's collar!!!!

Beautiful poem! Agree about the rhyming. What poetic 'form' is it with those final four syllable lines? They give the poem great rythm and hold it together.

Very nostalgic and moving. I think we all take our parents/grandparents for granted, but his arms and heart were wrapped round you, so you must have loved each other. It's just the egoism of youth unable to put itself in the place of a parent. Growing up isn't easy, either. Really liked this.

Fantastic!!!! Beautiful photo, a lake presumably, as you say 'fresh' water. the 'ripples of redemption , choke on what I know , feel disturbingly clean shaven'. Know exactly what you mean by that!,
Really exceptional.

Hi Don! Very funny again! The Marx brothers were really fantastic, but one never sees any of their stuff now. Perhaps it has all faded, is not able to be shown? I am quite happy to say how old I am, but I must say I've started to notice that people tend to cross you off if they know you are really ancient. (now I've been and gone and dunnit)! I overheard a friend the other day, saying 'OK, she's .........., but she's very good company!' In fact most of my friends are a lot younger.

Thank you guys i really appreciate the feedback, I get more feedback and commentary for my poems on here than I do on my facebook, I write for myself, to put my thoughts and experiences into hymns with rhymes and rhythms that tell a story. I hope my poems leave a positive impact and possibly help somebody in someway. When i write I don't hold back, censor myself, or sugar coat words..I have a low tolerance for bullshit and stupidity, and I shoot straight with truth and I don't look back...life is too short for the nonsense, don't take life too seriously, the people that do are miserable....
Once again thank you Don and Po for taking the time to read my poems and the feedback. I really appreciate it and God Bless....

I can't find brown paper. Is Christmas paper with Santa on OK ?
We must be careful not to excite Do too much. She's at the top of the ladda. We don't want her to fall off with our drivel 'bout vinegar/brown paper/Santa wrap do we ?

Thale here again Po. We must be quiet because Don doesn't know I'm talking to you. I'm from Mt Olympus and therefore unfamiliar with your reference to my man being suited to vinegar and brown paper. Should I make up a paper suit for him to wear holding a glass of vinegar to sip on? It seems a strange custom in UK but you do have some funny ways there I hear.....

I am a man of little needs
I like brand 'Meusli Rough'
Amongst the 50 brands in market
Can't find the bloody stuff
Freedom of choice Don market says
Choice 10p to a pound
But you do keep confusing me
By moving stuff around
Sheesh Randy.....
But sir it is variety
Which is the spice of life
Just give me salt and pepper back
Certainly sir. Which brand?.......
Simple Simon Salt?
Silly Salt for Simpletons (stays in shaker....good party salt)
Pathetic Salt for Poets (dull and uninspiring)
Jack and Jill Salt (runs uphill...another party salt)
Salt for Suckers (needs sucking out)
Shit Salt (would not recommend this sir...gutter salt...but we must cater for all types at our market)
Sheesh Randy!...lemme outta here
Freedom of choice Don......

Still no prospects of getting owt published. I'll keep you informed if I ever do.
I've just had one of mine on the local radio (not in my own voice as I was too busy to go in and record it) but I was still pleased to hear it over the airwaves.
How about you getting a book out. That'd be a worthy read.
Cheers Kevin

I think that there's the important difference. A refugee and a migrant are very different things. But let's not for one second fool ourselves about how close we potentially all are to becoming either. Wasn't it John Buchan that said, " You think that a wall as solid as the earth separates civilisation and barbarism. I tell you the division is a thread, a sheet of glass. A touch here, a push there, and you bring back the reign of Satan." How far are we from that push, that touch?

Thanks Jennifer, Po and Dorothy, yes everything's fine but genuinely, thank you for asking. It's funny, this doesn't really express how I feel now, but it did once, a long time ago. Sometimes we don't go places or visit certain thoughts or say certain things because they feel too raw, or you think you'll be misunderstood, but in the company of poets you should be able to speak your truths and darkest thoughts and trust them, and I'm pleased to say that we can. Thank you my friends.

The poem carries a strong sense of the past. Of times gone sadly forever. Not many milkmen left these days (or coal men). It evokes my childhood. Not a million miles from some of my stuff. Nice one!
