Thank you for interesting comment, Jennifer. Yes, I am all for thinking, provided it's the right sort of thinking. Not venomous, as you say.
And thanks to Julie, Abdul and Holden for the likes.

How true!! Where people find the time to spend so much of it twittering, facing, and instagramming I don't know. So much of it is 'spit-smart, jabbered 'and venomous, it seems to me. Food for thought.

The sporting media and the social media have their downsides -
not least because both attract the lowest common (emphasise the word) denominator in human sensibilities. The mob mentality
never quite goes away, does it?

George Galloway is certainly a maverick politician. But his
fearless performance before a US Senate(?) enquiry stays in the
mind. Has anyone faced such an intimidating experience with
more professional aplomb. It is a lesson in political expertise
and informed response.

Julie! This is lovely. Your poem made me giggle and smile. It is a unique quality to be able to tell a lovely story in a special way in few words-and you have got that quality. ?
Keep smiling.
Best wishes,

You can certainly add 'galloway' to the list, Stephen. Originally from Scotland, has been found in Iraq, cultivated by Russia. Extremely toxic.

Thanks for your observations, MC and Stephen. I've looked up 'farage' and it is described as a pernicious weed, non-native, and likely to pop up in unexpected places. Throwing milkshakes over it does not eradicate it.

Does a mirror tell us the future, the present, or the past?
In this poem it does all of that and more.
While pondering mirrors, I realised.
If a mirror ahead of us could show the future
And a mirror behind us could show the past
Then we seeing that, between two such mirrors, would realise
That the future is nothing without the past.
And the past is nothing without the future.

Is this the correct way to respond to a comment? I'm new here and am not sure.
Yes, all judges differ, and matching poetry to audience and judge is no simple task.

Thanks for your kind comment, Greg. It's a scary thought and I certainly hope that those times don't return. I suppose that the military should stick to doing what their good at, although I'm not sure what that is exactly. Make love not war, perhaps, at least metaphorically speaking.

Poisons have antidotes, of course. And yesterday, there was the
injection of a fine stage win by Mark Cavendish in the legendary
sporting event known worldwide as the Tour de France. A come
back that made for a most welcome sporting "double" at this stressful time.

All competitions are subjective in their outcome. Those judging
them are essentially seeking what they themselves look for or
prefer to see as "poetry". One might see them in a literary
sense as "the lottery of strife". Putting a contentious topic into
words in the way shown here is itself a style of form and content
and does its job well (subjectively speaking, of course). ?.
