DIY AT SEVENTY EIGHT

Don't even think about it - that's my advice

but who listens to that?

certainly not me, though it's all my idea

thinking of DIY at seventy eight.

I'm nursing my wounds just now

and re - grouping as my energy falls

it's all about screws and nails

twisting and shouting with pain and frustration

trying to match the plan with the dream

of proud completion, standing back

in admiration instead of crippling depleton.

I have all the tools, of course I do

anyone with self respect must indulge the illusion,

not to give way to persistent confusion.

It was just a window in my shed after all

not rocket science exactly

and digging out a bit of rot

was as close to heaven as I nearly got,

but I had to take the thing apart

recreate the bottom part,

that's when I found it wouldn't fit

so I had to make the best of it

and fiddle and fume and shave and cajole

until finally - I finished the job

without the extra special delay

of pretending to enjoy the rest of my day. .

Thanks for all the likes folks, forgive me if I don't list them all this time!

Yes Graham, good advice, i'm a hoarder of tools , the older the better but the steel is great. Thanks.

Mark, you've hit the nail on the head there!

Familiarity in these lines. For who can deny that time sees an
eager "young shaver" turn into a hopeful old shaver?
