Thanks folks for the likes; Nigel, Frederick, Graham, Jennifer, Stephen, Holden and Flyntland.
Thanks Stephen. This is one of those where I was dwelling on human nature as often I do. I always believe that people's motivations are often unconscious and so a secret to them, so I like to probe my own to give reason where none is forthcoming. That may sound harsh I know.
Always a pleasure to hear from you Laura and to garner a response both thoughtful and to my mind complimentary. I refer you to my response to Stephen's comment.
Cheers Greg, that's the third poem in a series it seems, along with so many others. Glad it found favour.

Apparently the bankers are all leaving the UK because of Brexit. So this is to try to persuade them to stay.

"Difficult decisions" what she really meant were decisions that make other people's lives more difficult.
I winced at "sell your pets"
your last line made me wince even louder. Well done for exposing the truth.
And she is smiling Grrrrrr!

I was fascinated by this, Laura. It has a rebellious sweep, I think, and is brilliant expressed.

Thanks John. Should preciseness be the deal of the day it is also scary as what or how little/much does it take to become imprecise in our analogies?! Suffice to say it is gladdening to know this is deemed "very clever." Cheers!

Thanks Stephen, just glad that uniqueness is still somewhat in vogue these days. As for brilliance, for that observation I am truly grateful to you.
Thanks John (Botterill) Should sparking a thought be a way to keep us moving on and together then it would seem a good habit to foster. Oh, and I love how you interpolated with the food shortage and consumption scenario! This is superb, thanks!

My thanks to Jennifer, John B, John C, Graham and MC for their comments.
Yes, John, the precise circumstances may be different, but this brings to mind Kaytn and so many other atrocities committed by members of our species. MC - you are right to say that they seek to escape retribution; we can only hope that those responsible will be brought to justice.
Graham - my heart goes out to the family of this poor man. It is difficult for us to comprehend the degree of suffering of the victims of this war.
And thanks to Frederick, Rose, K Lynn and Holden for liking this poem.

acts without care for suffering and seeks to escape retribution.

Thanks for your kind comments, Graham, Flyntland, Jennifer, John, and Steve. 'Martial yet mournful' were the first words that came to me, Graham, and made me reach for a notebook. I know what you mean about the 'precision' of the ceremony, Steve. Conveys power rather than grief or feeling, perhaps. Thanks also for the Likes, Stephen, Julie and K. Lynn

Stephen, all of your Ukraine work has been exceptional as already noted but this piece struck an even chillier chord today. Our next door neighbour (over the bottom fence, not physically next door) has a young woman and her daughter staying with them from Ukraine, whom we have met. My daughter who lives opposite has helped teach both some English as she is a teacher. We found out yesterday that her father sadly committed suicide last week because of what was going on in his town, Izyum.
Keep writing these valuable works Stephen.

Thanks for all the comments, Julie, Flyntland, Greg and Stephen. Yes, it is a horrifying situation and, sadly, there is probably more of the same to come. As we have said many times, there are no real winners in war - everyone comes out of it damaged. Even the perpetrators of this (who of course should be brought to justice) as diminished as human beings.
Greg- It was a pleasure to be involved and Phil was also glad to meet you and the others.

A fine, close-knit poem, Greg. 'Precision' is the word, I think. This morning, you could feel a well-oiled machine turning. For some reason, the whole procession made me feel rather miserable - perhaps the sight of the hyper-drilled establishment rumbling into action was a bit too much. It rather got in the way of the funeral, I felt. Nevertheless, an impressive spectacle which was covered in full on TV in Belgium (all channels were cleared) and in many other countries, I'm sure.
But things will be different, as you say.
