Typo on the last line by the way!

This would be a great Valentine poem or just one inside a greetings card i suppose. You know the kind, the ones with no cutey messages inside already. :-)
Nice poem Daniel.

My vote's already in. Found it helpful to make a note as the month progressed as to which ones were my faves so i wouldn't need to trail back to the beginning. I just hope that some of the people who are learned in poetry technique make use of their vote so that whichever one is chosen has had a fair judgement. In theory anyway. :-)
Sorry Steve but i'm not telling which one got my vote. I wish you luck. x

Fascinating Neil - I'm sure I'm not alone in knowing nothing about Nzinga or Hrolf, but I will now Google them. Well done. History is endlessly interesting isn't it. All the 'what ifs'
I've been slogging through this book on Churchill and you and Nicky have goaded me into writing something, which will be posted shortly. Thank you

Hm, i'm sorry now that i read all the varied comments. My first impression too was of death.
It does have another edge to it though as others have seen. I'd like to think she knits but doesn't want him to know it for fear he'll laugh at her.

It is a poem
Here is my attempt at a road sign poem
There's a heart somewhere that's twinned with mine
And on the road there is a sign
'This heart has priority over oncoming vehicles’

PS. Please please do comment on my poem. Honestly...I need it... I really have no idea whether anything I write has any literary merit whatsoever. The poem did make the recipient cry...but then it would...'cos it's about us...and she will forgive my cack handed metre and maudlin sentimentality and obscure references to stuff only we know about....but...is it a poem?

Aah, just beginning to get the hand of this website, which is organised very differently to any I have ever visited before. If I may be forgiven for the observation that it is very idiosyncratic...threads all arse about face...e-
mail alerts all a bit random etc. ( I never got Isobel's). Tell me I wasn't a prick to Chris...I'm sure he's a spoof...or worse.
: )
Thanks for calling...I hope to be able to learn alot from here...and contribute too. I really am an OK guy...well, my family think so. :)

I know St Albans well - a very busy place on a Saturday. Welcome to the site. Apparently only poems on profiles are looked at for POM - and not a lot of people know that.... So if you want to be considered on a regular basis, you need to update your profile with fresh stuff every month - putting it into blogs isn't enough. Good luck - I suggest you make your next one on bestiality or necrophilia...

Interesting how we steroetype. Knitters are associated with older ladies. I knit! well, I did when I had the time! Makes me feel quite ancient Anthony - think I'll have to root out my shawl and fluffy slippers :-)
No need to feel foolish John, it's open to interpretation. It could be about death, murder or an illicit affair. Thanks for the comments all.

feel a bit foolish now although as Anthony says it is open to inrterpretation - like it all the more for that. Nice one Nicky.

Not necessarily illicit, "he" obviously had means to "let himself in." I guess the knitting subconsciously implies "older" female (not in an ageist/sexist way, more a Madame Defarge way) so a kind of Midsomer Murders reference point - or just me being a little dense again.

So I presume you are thinking illicit affair Anthony. Instead of signing off, she is busy casting off...
Whichever, he is obviously her God - an intriguing piece Nicky - I used to have knitting like that - never got finished and lay around - not for the same reasons though.

Thank you for your well-considered comments. Much appreciated. I think there's often a fine line betwixt page and stage. Pagey things like alliteration and assonance can really come alive on stage, in the hands of a good reader (not suggesting that I am one of these).
I have never attempted to put any poetical veneer on a cheese sandwich, though I have written a story about some cheesegraters.
Best regards

Hi Nicky,
Strange how poems that ask the reader to use their own imagination can be interpreted so differently. I got something completely opposite to previous comments - but. on re-reading, I can easily see how they were led to those conclusions. Interesting.
Regards,
A.E.

Love this Steve - you are funny. John is right to remind everyone that I cut off at the 6th so I am still waiting for the flood. Have had a few votes but not enough to make it a serious competition yet - everyone seems to be voting for different poems - some I would have seen as rank outsiders - I guess we all have such different taste. I am enjoying it though. Hope the winner doesn't do a Gwyneth Paltrow though - emotions and tears are best reined in - despite the obvious ecstasy of being the chosen one.

Hi Cate
John Darwin brought me down to earth. I'd forgotten voting goes on until the 6th.
Is this a case of premature alliteration?
Dosh on the way
