This one caught my eye and further reading captured a memory amongst other things.
I'm a natural born analyser of anything and everything. I don't always come up with the right solutions but at least i make the effort and there is where most answers/solutions are found but rarely when all the analysing is one sided. ;-)

I think this can be interpreted in two ways. It's appropriate to the Halloween theme... and the living dead, vampires etc..
but i can see the references within it could be relevant to insomnia too. Nice one Ann ;-)

When i read the first few lines of this the rhythm immediately reminded me of the hymn 'We plough the fields and scatter.'
Not entirely out of place in this instance. A very current, factual styled poem.x

Hi Isobel and thanks for commenting on 'World.'
There isn't intentionally a lot running below the surface in it. Cynthia's comment is actually spot on but every single comment is appreciated and helps me to fix anything that might need some alteration for greater impact and understanding. Sometimes it's nice just to write about nature :-)

Hi Lynn and thanks for your lovely comment on my poem, 'World.'

I've just been reading your samples here and love 'Impossibility.' It asks all the questions associated with the topic. :-)

I see you seem to like writing about current affairs and government issues that affect lives. I'm afraid i'm a bit ignorant in that direction as i find such things, although part of our reality, so depressing i have a switch off button in my head.
I will continue to look out for your entries though with genuine interest.x

Hi Ann, thanks for commenting on 'World.'
It is a kind of battle against the elements of nature, human as well as 'natural' disasters? not sure it is meant to be quite that strong so gentle is probably correct.
Cynthia has it spot on but your comment adds to it so thanks for your valued input.x

Hi Cynthia, thanks for your comment on my poem, 'World.'
You are spot on with your interpretation. I thank you also for your further comments because i originally intended to blog them as a mini series but was very uncertain about the strength/powr/impact of each one standing alone. I've been working on it for some weeks and had real difficulty with the very first stanza but got fed up so decided it was time to air it.xx

Thank you all very much, your comments are more than welcome :-)

Cynthia hit the nail on the head.
I thought about doing this as a mini series but was a little unsure of the strength of each one standing alone.
Buffeted is the perfect word to feel for my intention.
Loosely, it is meant to refer to being buffeted against the evils and elements of nature, human or natural. I hope that comes through. I really struggled with the first stanza.x

I can empathise with the insomnia, the ending is bleak, and I'm identifying there too. The line that intrigues - To sleep before the sun - that can be played with a bit more I think, I can see several ambiguities there anyway.
Interesting piece

Makes it more enigmatic, which I like. Car journies can be so stressfull!! I am the world's worst navigator - or so my partner always told me!!!

A really good work, Isobel. Your unerring grasp of detail which then whorls out into thoughtful reflections is always a real delight to follow. You make the simple deep, and the deep simple. I do admire that. 'The Original Oak' has connotations flooding out of it, especially here in England, far more than just the name of a pub.

BTW, 'cracked' glass is veiny; ''splinters' are shards everywhere. How about the Ring Road around London? Couldn't get much more 'webby' than that; well, maybe Paris or...or...or! Do the English 'sup beer' as though it is the entire intake of sustenance?

Janet, this is very different. I find several poems in one. Have I said this before? IMO, following one distinct line of thought at a time is stronger; ideas can be contrasted, of course, for huge emphasis. But I found myself buffeted ... which may have been your intent.

This is lovely, Gus, the speaking of it a pure music in the sound of its words and their syntax. The thought ebbs and flows too, until you grasp it like a piece of floating seaweed and hold it in your hand, and mind. I wonder why no one has commented; perhaps the layout is a bit too disjointed, or too large in font, to hold the thought together in our 'computer screen venue'?

I like this a lot, Ann. I'm going to be bold enough to think you have posted this as brand new, still sorta percolating. IMO, it has loveliness in it, but could be drawn into a tighter, more impactive 'net'. Perhaps reordering some ideas such as beginning the poem with: 'A primitive time, twilight.'I find that statement a great hook to lure the reader on. From a structural view I got a bit lost when certain words weren't clearly nouns or verbs; it didn't spoil the poem, but it didn't enrich it either, eg. 'smells'. The poem does have character.

Nice work Lynn and agree with sentiment, I work in benefits so have a good understanding of whats goin on.

Yes, people with no intention of working should be persuaded back into work, but to do it all at the same time as slashing 500000 jobs and get lone parents to now get work when their youngest is 7, when there are 2 million out of work already, the maths dont work!

Yes we know there is massive debt and something needs to be done, but theres nothing like getting carried away! Jeff X

I prefer itching cos it sounds more poetic - more classy. This is a good one Laura - it leaves it to the reader to interpret. I would see it as the anniversary of a break up - but I suppose it could be a death, a murder or anything.

If you messed around with it a bit you could turn it into a comic poem.

No celebration
of their anniversary
his scars are itching...

I prefer your version though - I just like clowning around! x

There you go, we can never agree. Ain't it a great life! I liked ITCHY because it was so 'immediate', so likely to be 'said', and therefore, for me, so 'real' because it sounded 'honest'. Maybe it's a 'man thing' to want 'harshness' modified.
