hey Red, cheers for the comments on my stuff lately. i myself don't really give comments or feedback coz i don't really know enough to talk about things. i do enjoy what i've read of yours. you got that spontaneous feel to yours and i really like that when i read poetry, as most of my own poems come out raw and stabbing out, bleeding for the daylight, and i don't have nothing to do with it. x

I love this Marianne. It is erotic and lush, yet "bookish" and esoteric. There is an intimacy I think in reading a second hand book in bed, when you don't know who held it in their hands before. Not sure if this thought has anything to do with your poem but that's what I get from it.

I find it a powerful and moving poem too, this bit is excellent:
My black dreams ground their razor heels

Into my soul,

and I like this:

Weary years when I had to decide

What to see –what to feel – what to ignore.

I found, in contrast to several others, that I liked the last verse least of all. I guess it's the I am my own hero line.It's a bit overblown and recalls too much the M People song.Which I loathe.

Thanks for your comment re Neil. Any response is much appreciated. I have been reading your work too. I don't usually like to comment without some kind of introduction or invitation. What strikes me most about it is that it almost invariably seems to have a sting in the tail. That's a good thing in my book; a poet should always have surprise in their armoury. I hope you enjoy it here and make many new friends. I have found it to be a great opportunity to learn, discuss - and even have a laugh with like-minded people.

castaneda relates an almost identical experience where on several occasions under don juan's tutelage he made him turn into a crow - he says it wasn't as if he was pretending to be a crow - in his mind at least he WAS a crow.I'm very impressed by your own experience - it sounds wonderful !

re spooky incidents Greg-one which was a cross between a nightmare and possible alien abduction-(you can laugh!)lying on the sofa watching tv-some hooded figure pops head round door-I tried to shout out but could,nt and could not move-seemed very very real-ooer missis! yep,thank heaven for birds and steam trains eh-re spooky films,my fave is an old black and white called 'The haunting' which has since been very poorly remade-the original stars Richard Johnson and Russ Tamblyn-brill! thanks Greg.

One I had to really think about - much like all of yours Marianne!

It brought to my mind the idea of living out a life through books/art - experiencing second hand the feelings we don't manage to find in real life. I think books aren't the only medium for doing this - but they are great for losing yourself in.
I enjoyed thinking about it. x
