Hi Charlene, your words are right. So many people walk around as casualties from experiences they have been through, in childhood and later on in life. All these experiences mold who we are in the present. Still though, many people are reluctant to admit this fact. There is cause and effect for everything. The hard part comes when realizing this; the negotiation of coming to terms with bad experience, and who you would like to project yourself as in the future. I really feel sorry for you in many ways, you're only seventeen and these words instill upon the reader a very real concern that at your age, you don't seem to have had a very good experience of your younger years. I wish that more people understood this, perhaps then we would realize that we are all in many ways casualties from previous years, and we can then look upon each other as equals, extend a hand of freindship to one another and disengage from the perpetuation of abuse that has plagued this world before we were ever born.
Nice work Charlene and a top poem, and wrote in such a way that the reader, instead of trying to identify your own personal experiences; looks within and can locate and identify with what you have written. Clever and responsible and very thoughtful.
You're not alone in your experiences. Keep hope for your future.
much love
mike

This made me smile...
As you know, I just got my passport, and they said I could smile, but not show my teeth?! My other passport - no set rules - I could smile big - so I did... : D
Crazy, huh?!

I'm not sure if you'll see this or not Carole. Just wanted to say how delighted I was to see that you'd got up there and read some poetry. We've met a couple of times at Sale and I've enjoyed talking to you.
I'm not sure if Sale is for me - I prefer the atmosphere in the pub scene - I'm more on the performance side. You should try some other WOL venues too. Hope to see you again.

this sounds like Bolton when I was a kid. I'm now so ancient, I still remember trolley buses & part-cobbles on Great Moor Street. It always seemed to be raining as well. xx B

You drop words like jewels to evoke emotions, images, thought (duh! like your title says); but, anyway, I find indolence and insolence seeping up through your words to mock the reader, and yet I feel the desire to grab the reader into intense intimacy, an engulfing togetherness. Mate, I'm going to take a break from your work; I begin to sound like an idiot.

Charlene, your first verse is marvellous, a complete poem in itself. But I do hope you are keeping all 'the filled-up books'; I think they will be a source of great pleasure some day.

Some lovely images here. I like the first and last stanzas best, and would probably be soul-satisfied with just them as I find them resonant, lyrical and evocative in diction.

'subject matter and humour' are quite enough to make an outstanding poem. This one sparkles. My dad had five girls; so, he always insisted on a male dog. 70% of the houses in Bermuda are painted pink, bright unabashed glorious pink.

Thanks, Francine and Jules.I think the number of comments is an indicator of the subject matter and the humour, rather than quality. But thanks anyhow.

This is what you call a poem - liked especially crammed trams and insular buses - which did bring to mind insolent conductors who rang the bell just as you caught up with the bus and split their sides laughing thinking it a huge joke that you had to wait 30 mins for the next one x

Hi Andy
Within this poem, ‘World’s Turn’ I am trying visualising the mystery and ever changing beauty of femininity comparing it to the daily splendour of sunset utilising her clothing in metaphor.
Thank you for taking the time to read my work and comment

Thanks all. We've 5 daughters and 1 son. My son and I wanted the house painted claret and blue - Aston Villa colours. As always, Girl Power won the day.Dunno what shade of pink it is, blushing I expect. Definitely not posh.

Thank God for your explanation. I thought you'd swallowed a thesaurus Cynthia. I would have slapped the two who ventured crepuscular and iconoclastic who were obviously taking the mickey. Interesting to see that you felt that you needed to use three of the five in the first two lines that really put me off.
I did however like pragmatic heels barking and the fast night pissing.
I hope you gave the other poets a tricky word yourself. I always think prestidigitator goes down well.
