Enjoyed. How long have you lived? is a good way to put the question, implying that job and death are synonymous.
I thought "She has tourettes." would suffice, the hilarity kind of goes without saying, you fuckin' bastard you. It's squeaking, not squeeking.

Your 'bird dream' sounds fantastic. I have never experienced any kind of transmutation or transmogrification, never had the conscious desire to (or unconscious, either, I guess); so, maybe, therein lies the difference. I've had lots of incidences with birds, animals and insects as though we 'talked' the same language, 'eye contact', all when wide awake.

Enjoyed this a lot, Dave, though I could have done without the penultimate verse. I have such a poem myself, what friends refer to as "the Kate Moss poem". I don't think I'll ever write one that is as popular with an audience, which is a bit sad. But then, I've just been asked to do a support slot at a John Cooper-Clarke gig - my hero! So Whoooo!

I can identify with this too! I used to love my Alfie poem - still do, though I don't ever perform it now. I always thought nothing could compare - but in the end, you move on. Now when I look at it, I think it is naive and doesn't work on the page. With performance poetry, you just have to hear it live to get the electricity and the emotion. Us poets are really mad - we attach far too much significance to the written/spoken word - but we are all rather wonderful too. I'm glad I've discovered other people even madder than me. I love the poem - there is so much to identify with. x

I agree with John. It came over very powerfully when you read last night Chris. This is a clever social comment and a poignant condemnation of the justice system in our country.

This is something all us poets can relate to in some way or another. Writers block can just hit out of the blue and you can seize up for weeks, months and sometimes years. You just need something to kick start you again to get back up in the saddle again.
I really like the idea behind this Dave.

Hi Ray
I think I can see what you're trying to say in this about dependence on medication instead of facing up to reality. Are you saying the character in question is using the system manipulatively though? Enjoyed the last verse especially "the world outside is full of knocks, better off inside a box".

hey Red, cheers for the comments on my stuff lately. i myself don't really give comments or feedback coz i don't really know enough to talk about things. i do enjoy what i've read of yours. you got that spontaneous feel to yours and i really like that when i read poetry, as most of my own poems come out raw and stabbing out, bleeding for the daylight, and i don't have nothing to do with it. x

I love this Marianne. It is erotic and lush, yet "bookish" and esoteric. There is an intimacy I think in reading a second hand book in bed, when you don't know who held it in their hands before. Not sure if this thought has anything to do with your poem but that's what I get from it.
