Thank you for your kind words John. It's good to know you found it uplifting as I wrote it for a family member and that's exactly how I wanted them to feel. M xx

Really enjoyed this - thought at first the repetition was going to annoy me, but no - it worked well. Flows beautifully, and I love the symmetry of the first and last lines.

Hiya John

Cheers for your comment on Dissonance - I'm pleased it got you reading The Prophet again. It's one of my favourite books. It's kinda spooky but whenever I'm in 'need' of it, it falls open onto the pages that give me the most succour.

Anyhoo - the 'she'? Who do YOU think that is?

'Doing it Twice.'
Is my kind of stuff John, I really enjoyed it.
I will read more when I get my new spectacles; but am struggling a bit at present. I like the audio suggestion. As a matter of fact I am now trying to put my "Strictly for the Birds" to my three chord guitar range, doing the Carter lick similar to "A boy named Sue." I do that some tmes
at my folk club.
I'll be in touch. Tom Mc D.

Honesty, humanity, without sentimentality.

excellent as normal, kealan.

you want to consider splitting the last line into a stanza by it's self as it may have more impact by itself.

otherwise, keep em coming! x

Must admit I went through my Bukowski phase I guess maybe 4 years later, but he's a poet that I've read lots of people try to be inspired by etc.

On your poem, I love all the movement and colour that is it. Are you going to try and perform it - it would tie me up in knots this if I tried it, I bet.

Top stuff however.

Wigan's a tricky one for me to get to of an evening to be honest. I can't really see many opportunities arising for me to perform this poem which is why I've stuck it on here. It did take some time to write so I'd be happy for people to enjoy it in any way they can - as long as I get a namecheck at the end! Glad you liked it Isobel and Terry. Many thanks for the comments.

Then you'll have to come to the Tudor in Wigan a week on Thursday and perform it for us - or get some of us to perform it for you. I could rustle up some Wigan accents for you - or even try to sink back into a broad accent myself.

There are a lot of funny lines in this as well as history but it needs to be heard. I'm not sure how it would sound with posh Lymm accents - you are right about that. My sister once tried to put on a scottish accent to read a poem about Scotland - it sounded awful - we persuaded her to do it in 'english'.

I did enjoy this and approve of anything that puts Wigan where it deserves to be on the map - bang in the cultural centre of the North West...

One thing missing was the warmth and fiendliness of the locals (older generation at least) - you'd love the Tudor I'm sure - but don't try over stepping you 3 - 5 minutes or we'll be throwing pies at you! xx

Apparently it was videoed but we never received a copy. Performing it was quite a mammoth task and a bit daunting as neither of us are from Wigan! We didn't know how to pronounce Mesnes Park. We're from Lymm near Warrington - I think it would be nice to hear it performed with proper Wigan accents.

yeah I didnt see that mistake there, I always miss one or two. But as always thanks very much for the comment. I think even back then there was the knowledge of something more than just reproduction among the genders. Today there is jealousy within a group of apes and you cant feel jealous if you dont feel love.

Alan, did you remove a very recent poem in praise of women? I went back for a reread and nothing is there - I was sure it was yours - but, maybe not.

BTW, I read several dictionaries and Roget's Thesaurus regularly, just for fun. Started in Year Six. (What a geek!) Bathroom literature is a thick volume Vocabulary Builder that has its own shelf, with a marker close by. I'm never bored. One amazing result of such reading is the understanding that you can't always put experiences and feelings into words, no matter how many fine words you have to explore, explain or exploit.

Very 'presocratic'! - fab word; superb title; amazing concept. Do you think they actually differentiated between friends and lovers? So DHLish, that phrase. Check 'gound' for 'ground' - a small error (I think) that does spoil the flow a bit.

I get your point completely, and like your response. I'm experimenting with the minimalist style, and quite like it. I've got many poems in two versions - the 'talking' one and the 'mind flash' one. They are only styles, after all, and the conversational one is often more reader friendly.

I liked the poem immensely - it's my kind of poem. Humour in the face of adversity. Where would we be without humour? I also liked the way you didn't over do the pathos. It is always a difficult balance when you write about such things. It's always pleasant when you repost to see fresh perspective on it from new people - or just a re-appreciation by us oldies. :-)
