Classic Coopey I think - though I must admit to guessing the punchline as soon as I read the title ;)

I loved the networking/creeping synonym - it made me laugh - there's a lot of truth in that. Golf should be banned from all corporate social activities ;)

Thanks folks,
I thought I could write one of those hard to `get` poems with enough `clues` in it to be `got`...This wasn`t it. I can`t.

But I tried.

Ah well! maybe next time.

Good Evening Cynthia

As always you are on the red button!

Yes, I felt the piece, The Last Ferry was just a little overloaded and would as most pieces often do benefit from edit and rewrite.

Once again and as always many thanks for reading and comments

Good Evening Chris
How nice to hear from you and if only I could get the old pony and trap across to the heart of Liverpool we would see much more of one another.
Thank you for your reading and critiquing of The Last Ferry and your request to hear more of my childhood memories from the Island and particularly those that include my aunt Norma.
The poem was written from a current standpoint with my memories, longings and sadly the fact of growing older and hopefully demonstrating that memories want to be prominent within your own minds eye so much so that they can be heard clearly and smelt and , although just out of reach, touched. Unrequited they follow me to my bed and fill my nights with dreams and echoes of the past.
It will be very good to see and hear you again sooner than later I hope all is well in love and heath.
Once again many thanks for your comments,
Gus

I have read these opinions and I do understand Adele's point about the much younger audience -though in my experience there seem to be very few very young people in poetry venues. Perhaps we should be actively choosing to open early evening or weekend meetings, encouragement at a young age is such a bonus.
I am opening a new venue 'Beyond Words' in a side room of The Gipsy Hill Tavern on Tuesday 6th March and I have yet to see the effect a pub venue will have on the poetry. It is a completely separate room from the pub proper so I suspect the availability of a glass of wine at hand will outweigh any difficulty over the fact of it being a pub. I will post again after my first night !

Howdy Marianne

Wow - thank you, that means more to me than you will know. I decided to kind of 'force open' the creative doors recently, rather than waiting and letting it come as it pleases, cos I've got some spare time on my hands and I can't think of a better way to use it!

Anyway, been trying all manner of things (as is apparent!) and bouncing between feeling it's good, and total self-doubt, or rather, Satan, as my bloke Bob would have it hehe ;)

It's really good to hear your thoughts on it all, and also to hear that it's inspiring you. Wow - that's a HUGE compliment, coming from you.

I am really looking forward to seeing where you go :) :)

Enjoyed it, you do rhyme well. I think the rhythm is dodgy in a couple of places

in charity shops. They’ve got quite a range

and wedding gown after gown for rag student dress up;

is what I'd suggest.
Nice line, this

things that were cheaper in Primark when new,

Bilston Voices, eh? Is Emma Purshouse involved in that?

Interesting piece - I like how you've placed the unasked and unanswered questions in there...there's a sense of 'hidden' and making the reader work and think, which is always a good thing!

'I am fixed upon his expression' - that's a great follow-on from your father being fixed on tree limbs (but I struggled a bit with that couplet tbh).

That line 'with a gulp I swallow them down' reminds me of a line from the first poem I ever saw Rachel perform...the one that spurred me into writing in the first place. Her poem was about her dad, and the line went 'I learned to swallow lumps for breakfast' - and it crucified me at the time.

Great poem :)

gibbering what an awful verb. gibberish as a noun is kind of cool suggesting something has come of it, all that gibbering. it reminds me of monkeys chattering. probably from gibbon or something.i often wonder what theyre on about with each other chirping away with no opposing thumbs and shrieking every now and then.

i was just throwing ideas at you like the primates throw stuff in zoos.

uninteligible is a good word. i dont know how to spell it :)

Ooo I've only just seen your note re BO heh - handy hint of the day...if you're replying to me, do it on MY profile otherwise I most likely won't see it unless I keep checking yours. If you reply on mine I get an email message :)

Anyhoooo...thank you very much for your notes on If and Inauthentic. I'm trying new things at the moment, have forced open the mental/creative doors that usually open just when they fancy, in order to use some spare time 'wisely' (that'll make a fucking change then), and blast out as many ideas as poss. Trouble is, now I'm fucking DELUGED with words and ideas and some are good and some are shite ;D but they won't leave me alone!!!

Ahh and I've just read your note to Anthony Emmerson up there - seems we may be doing the same sorta thing!

Haha re BO and standing next to people :D I usually nip to the shops on my way home from festies and I get the same reaction...people literally swerving around me with their faces wrinkled up :D Hehehe :D

Reet, seem to have written an epic! Best go do some work then. *cough*
