I hope this works, MC. You old goat!
Whenever I do a poem for Our Gert she calls me a skinflint and demands to know "Where are the flowers?"
After further thoughts I'm thinking the Billie I recall was Billie Davis?
Certainly Jet Harris was a favourite of mine. The first record I ever bought was "Diamonds". Cost me 4/11d. (I play it rather badly on the geetar)

I met Gaia on Dec. 14, 2011, when she shared a poetry presentation at Manchester City Library. I have her small edition of 'Fine Bone China", featuring eleven outstanding poems which I have reread many times. They always give me sheer pleasure and quality inspiration. I feel it is too easy to mix up the overall term 'contemporary' with 'experimental'. Gaia's poetry is very accessible. She must be a superb teacher. I hope I can participate in her course.

I feel this is a good piece Lynn, please don't 'bin it' as you implied you might.
My daughter developed Sports fever halfway through the 2nd week and was really fired up when watching the 5,000 M race, hehe. I remember being like that in the days of Coe & Ovett...
Best wishes, Dave

Hi Isobel, like this look at the more contraversial side of the games. Great compilation of various events that have seen the darker side especially for those who lost out and yes agree about Ludmilla and always thought Sharon D was a cracker! Thanx for your comment on my olympic poem, like your dads way of thinking! X

I enjoyed the humour in this. There should be a sport out there that you can only play in pissing rain - then we'd excel in it and win all the medals. Winter sports demand snow and the wealthy background to be able to afford skiing lessons - much like dressage, I suppose :)

Funnily enough this reminded me of Tammy Wynette - 'Stand by your man' - not the words so much as the sentiment. It's a find sentiment if you can find one worth standing by ;)

Great flow and pace Harry. I love the way you've played with language. Enjoyed reading and I'd imgagine it would perform well.
You haven't tagged this properly. The tag is WOL Olympic Competition and needs to go in under tags. If you edit the poem you will see the tag for it at the bottom. Am only saying this to make it easier for Graham to pick up all the poems when he comes to do his list.

It was one of those "think up a first line and see where it takes you" type of poem, but seeing as I changed the first line, it was free to take me off somewhere else.
Thanks for comment, another coming up. xx

Hi Tommy, thanx for reading my olympic poem, not exactly sure what the comment meant but can see you're not a fan. I've read your recent blogs and understand where you're coming from.
We could debate the pros and cons for hours, yes the money could be spent on a lot of things but so could the money for arms, defence, the space race, who the hell knows what!
At least with the olympics folk can get involved and support it (70,000 volunteers and altho opening ceremony cost £30m it wouldnt have happened but for 15,000 volunteers), have some pride (we don't get a lot to shout about) and hopefully there may be a legacy for others to take part and build those sports facilities etc.
And maybe for the next hundred years, we can draw from it as an overall success, but in a thousand years who will be arsed what we happened or what we spent the money on anyway!
By the way, I've only heard briefly about this school playing field issue, nead to read the literature, doesn'y sound good, but like your poem in response to the issue!, Best wishes Jeff

JC - you're right! A song called "Tell Him" was a hit for a group called The Exciters back in 1963. Also - in the early 1980s, Barbra Streisand/Carly Simon had the same title (but I don't know if it was the SAME song) available from what I see online. But, as I say, there is no copyright in song titles and a few "standards" of yesteryear have had (usually inferior) songs of the same name appear years later.

Yvonne - Country songs have always had a rep. for being about love or doom and gloom. And since I much prefer to write "positive"....
JC - I certainly recall Jet Harris (of The Shadows) but admit to ignorance of that of which you speak. It is not unknown for songs to have the same title since there is no copyright on them. I must check - out of curiosity more than anything else. As for a tune - I'm working on it!

This hits home with the force of a sock full of ball-bearings! Harsh and merciless in its evocation of "then and now". I detect something of the blunt-force trauma prose of Raymond Chandler...or Mickey Spillane on a good day!
