Like Maggie, I wasn't able to come along on 10 June, so Monday 17 June would be great for me!
I'll wait to hear if it's going to be that date; thanks.

A great topic for a poem Dave - I find the different way people interact fascinating.

I always thought that whether you were introvert or extrovert depended on self confidence - but have to come to realise that it's not the same thing - though it's hard to be a party animal when you lack confidence, it is possible to be confident in yourself but awkward socially - if that makes sense.

It just goes to show what complicated animals we are.

I like the contradictions that run through this - the fear of extroverts being tied up with being pleased for them.

All in all, very well expressed.

My dad was a wagon builder in Preston during the war Harry. There was bomb damage to the roof of the factory where they worked, which no-one could spare man time to fix - so the men worked in the freezing cold. And yet his aunt would get flak from one particular neighbour because her son had been drafted whilst my dad was in a protected industry. You just can't imagine what kind of turmoil people lived in - or what it must have done to their minds.

Isobel,
Thanks for the comment on the war one (I messed up posting it) I wish I could have done justice to that episode about us all dragging the fuel wood past the grounded barges in procession along the frozen sliver of the breached canal - It truly was like a scene from Doctor Shivago` (The wood was case-wood from the bombed factory where-eventually - I would work.

John
Thanks for the comment on the war one.

You`re right about the medal, that custard was well worse than the bombs.

That young blond, who sat languidly licking stamps and eying all of us contemptuously, was my very first impossible Godess.

Ian,
Apart from one, every time I`ve tried a sonnet I`ve found myself copying Shakespeare (as if I could!).

Unless I feel the poem going that way, I leave them alone. For me they are a straight-jacket.

I could come to a meeting on Monday 17th June. Can you tell me who wrote the long "heatons art trail news" message? Please if you write a message, could you put your name at the end of it. See you soon.
Thanks, Maggie

That's great news about your son Alex and thanks for the comment on my poem.

Lack of sleep is a killer. I find the best way of getting a reasonable night is to switch off computers and watch T.V. That way you don't have ideas and thoughts buzzing round in your head. I try to restrict WOL and the internet to daytime now, with the occasional lapses which I pay for...

I understand what you are saying about the Tudor. You take care now.

Hiya Stephan/Paticia. I haven't posted a list of competition entries yet - I was going to leave it till end of June cos it seemed quite slow to kick off and I know that a few people said they were writing something.

I have definitely logged Pursuit on the radar though. I'm hoping that everyone tags them, otherwise I'm likely to forget what we've had.

'the sparkle' words & vocal by yours truly, music by yours truly and a guy called Nev Barker, who is the bass player on the track - there are some more in the vault - I'm adding them one a month at month ends - the next one 'Northern Lights' is quite psychedelic - some of the earlier ones are on my profile page - glad you liked it :-)

Often there's virtually nothing between 1st 2nd and 3rd. We may get a reasonable number of entries but far fewer people vote. I wouldn't worry about whether it's worse or better than anything else - it's just great to see how different minds tackle a theme. I'm really happy with what we've got so far :) x

I imagined it was someone who took their own life - and the 'from a high window' became that much more poignant because it had that double meaning. I think the title is perfect for that reason.

Strings of blue
Singing so low.

Now I have
Heard grim news.

That our meeting
Will not be.

On high note
To recharge onwards.

Explore new locations
Maybe Heaton Moor?

Thanks for your comment on my 52 Hertz entry Isobel. I actually changed the title as the original didn't much match the theme of the competition. I like to think of it as someone gazing out below at a vast expanse; be it wide plain, moor, or - indeed - ocean ;)

June 2013:

We had 16 audience members and performers this month and an excellent guest slot from Pete Slater.

Feedback:

Great people, nice and relaxed, I'm wonderful, relaxed, poetry uncensored, good poems, nice venue, great poems, great performers, great cakes, purr-fect, very good meeting, outstanding, great as usual, brilliant as per, great variety.

Early start is difficult for travel, early start makes travelling from afar difficult, shoot quiz mic man lol, too many stairs, not enough exits, bigger cakes, noise from downstairs, not enough expletives, a bigger audience.

Yay - thanks for taking part David! I love the way you have let your imagination roam with this one - unless of course you ARE that man from a high window ;

'The noontide skyscape hangs heavily
Like fog crafted from artists’ hands'

sets the scene beautifully for the story that unfolds. I imagine scenes like this one are played out across the world - and that they leave behind the same sad conversations.

I like the title very much also - it leaves something to the imagination.
