Oddly enough, Sal, my son may never see this. There are many things that I compartmentalize--a place for everything and everything in its place.

Thanks for commenting. It is quite the reward to be able to open a door, however briefly, for communication.

Thank you Big Sal. I enjoy taking photograhs, especially of nature. Glad you liked the recital. It has been a while since I recited my writing.

Poetikaly Anointed, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Grief is incredibly painful. Stay strong. Hugs.

Awesome write.

Sadly, I can relate to this. A dying love of any kind is tragic. It hurts when the family you knew is the once you lost...No mommy...no daddy...just baby in the middle.

I often try to abstain from writing poetry for my loved ones as I never like giving fodder to my enemies, but on the off occasion that I get around to it and do so, it comes out with more power and strength of emotion than I ever could have hoped - and much more so than the other pieces I put to paper.

I applaud your strength in writing something so personal for a loved one. It's never easy doing so when you know they won't be the only ones reading it. I quite enjoyed the read.

Seeing your you- tube reference prompted me to pen this.

A famous behind

There was a young man called Hugh Janus,
Who had a terribly big anus.
One night in his bed he had a bad dream,
While bending ,his trousers did burst at the seam.
That's when his behind became famous.

Well Brian not a very nice comment from you,
I can assure you this was written by Hugh.
Maybe accusations like this show the kind of person you are.
And on a positive and friendly W.O.L.site your going to far.
Many words of encouragement flow on this site,
Derogatory unfounded remarks are not right.
Keep them to yourself under your hat,
No room on W.O.L. for comments like that.
I'll have you know that I am a highly qualified man,
And sometimes writing a good poem, I definitely can.

Great to hear rhyme defended!
John Betjeman got a lot of stick for rhyming.
Below are the 2nd and last verses of his 'Tregardock' (on a Cornish cliff top)

Only the shore and cliffs are clear
Gigantic slithering shelves of slate
In waiting awfulness appear
Like journalism full of hate
---
And I on my volcano edge
Exposed to ridicule and hate
Still do not dare to leap the ledge
And smash to pieces on the slate.

This is no trivial matter.

Tregardock is one of several of his poems I've set to music in the folk tradition.

Keep rhyming where appropriate.
Best wishes, Mike Holding

I can only say "thanks" for the kind words of appreciation.
The current sunny weather and its occasional breeze got me
thinking of the ephemeral nature of the warmer days of the
year and how the summer wind (called by various names
in different parts of the world) carries a message that urges
us to make the most of those days but ultimately says its
farewell as the seasons turn.

These are the moments that make what we do worth all the effort. By 'we' I refer to all those people, like Mike and so many folks, who go to the trouble to create opportunities such that others can share their work; the audiences, too, who understand the importance of listening to each other, and making sure their appreciation is demonstrated; and the voluntary team that runs this amazing website of ours.

This sounds as though it was an extremely special occasion, for writer/reader and his listeners. Yet at any session there might be less-obvious examples: someone who is desperately nervous about reading their words for the first time, and manages to do so without messing up, or someone who wants to get something off their chest and is allowed to do so. It might not win the Forward Prize, but it might be a personal equivalent achievement, as this sounds to have been.

Such opportunities are at the heart of what Write Out Loud is about: encouraging anyone who wants to, to have a go at writing and sharing their words with like-minded others. Doing so in an open-floor or open-mic context is, in our view, just as legitimate a form of publication as getting your work into a magazine, and can be more scary.

Well done to you and your audience, Mike, for creating an ambience that enabled this to happen.
