There is a purity and nobility about this poem, Isobel, which is refreshing.
Paradoxically, however, it is so often the impure and the ignoble elements of humanity which make life interesting!

This poem wasn't really about time - that was just one element - but thanks for reading - I appreciate your comments.

I like rhymes, alliteration etc so I like this. My fave bit is 'Computer tutors? Completely useless!' ... and they are!
But I'm not at all good with riddles, if this is a riddle?
Good to meet you at the Tudor, Wigan, a few weeks ago, Antonionioni.

Hi Deborah - i can picture you reading this poem - i like it - it's succinct - I almost feel that performed it would become almost mantra-like if each line once read was read again to maximise the quiet impact of the words and their internal rhythm

I have read this poem with great difficulty, liken to running naked thrugh a series of cryptic crossword clues. The imagery is startling and jagged and almost scarey dream mode. Yur words are carefully chosen and then thrown together in a tapastry of mood and colour not unlike a painting by Braque Enjoyed the experience but could not follow the plot.
Well Done
Gus

Hi Gus.. Mal is a well known wasp sucker I feel. Though if he was low, he was consistently low. If you dont give yourself any room for improvement then you're snookered I guess. Not sure never been a judge? Win

Possibly a bit long to get to it's point, but I think the poem on the whole is lovely..
Would split the last line thou from 'but you, Vincent, you were a man'
to 'but you,
Vincent,
you were a man'
or something

good stuff, Gem... Have you considered cutting out the last line? I am drawn to the fact if you remove it - you can sidestep the audience and that's always a favourite trick off mine..

Lot of interesting points I could say as I think you took a lot off gambles with the language in places and the length of some of the stanzas, but good stuff! Nice One!

I really liked this!
It reminded me of an exhibition I saw a few months back at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester (my hat/my home). It is called Subversive Spaces and mainly deals with surrealism and the connections between female hysteria (as if there ever was such a thing!!) and the physicality of the home and furniture. A few photos featured a china doll being left in various positions in a house that left an atmosphere of abuse and it popped into my head when I read this....?? You should check it out online as there is still alot of information about it.
You are an exceptional writer!

Wow... hmmm...
'I did 20 yrs mate
20 yrs of a lie
sure I got it up, inserted it
but my feelings never got that boost
must come from being a caveman
or crowing the cockerels cocky roost
from a hilltop
men are number one
killing everything aren't we?'
Interesting perspective... a bit confused though...

Lovely!
So many great lines in this...
'With the innocence and naivety that summer
The girls made us jump through hoops
At the playing field
And any flash of fleshy we would gratefully scoop up
Just to see what they looked like
We pinched our knee skin together
And he told me that that is what a vagina looks like'
You seem to capture it so well... I remember the boys at this age ; )

Hi Isobel,
it's a shame to waste energy and our thoughts on the things which worry us.
It's better to be open and honest as possible to be able to live free with a clear mind knowing what we know to be true and real.
Time will tell is all very well but it's now which counts down seconds, minutes turn into hours, hours into days, then weeks, months, years and into infinity.....
Like this Isobel. I like it a lot!
Janet.x
