Our Green Earth poets read at Liverpool’s beautiful Palm House
Merseyside poets and musicians performed their environmental anthology last week at Liverpool’s beautiful Victorian Palm House in Sefton Park. Led by Michelle Wright, Barry Woods and Ali Harwood, the event covered ocean pollution, global warming and rainforest reduction, with contributions from many local poets and some first time writers from local schools.

Good Trees
Waikiki beach, near the pacific's roar
spear fished the inky night but close to shore
for now and then, a warning shout of shark
we scrambled back to sand with trembling heart
before the scare, our bags were full of fish
we planned to fabricate a wooden dish
from dry wood, we found washed up on the beach

The Thorn

It seemed a big bird had flown;
For, onto the desk of my own,
A feather was falling,
Through the air fluttering.
As if in a dream did I gaze:
A tiny bird it was!
I stretched an arm,
And the bird got on my palm.
The whole body, in bright gold,

queuing up just waiting
we give them substance
by living dying mating
sometimes you get hints
they call it premonitions
or that indefinable frisson
whatever the definitions
clairvoyant at the seaside
