Stars and Stripes
big brother
little kids,
children in the middle
of
civil war torn nations
warring
civil discourse
say your prayers
“Our Father”
we gather together to ask for salvation

tears of sorrow
the streets of Uvalde full of tears
tears over the loss of precious children
but also tears of the loss of a nation’s innocence
did we lose it on waldon’s mountain
or the streets of mayberry
or around our own dinner tables
or in the womb of the chapel
can it be found again

Un-nation
The flags fold in on themselves
and the nations give way to earth,
boundaries disappear as quickly
as they bureaucratically appeared,
and the land remains the same,
and the people do not alter.
The flesh and bones are unchanged,
to no-one else are we tethered,
a murderous group are we all,
killing our own, for what gain?
