Such beautiful language, and it flows so well. Not a single wasted word, but those used convey a deep connection. Thanks for sharing this Naomi.

Thank you Stephen & Flyntland. It was triggered by seeing the piper on TV on Saturday & my daughter saying “why does he or she have to be up on the roof?!”

Thanks Stephen... We certainly are. Coincidentally, while I was idly scribbling this poem, one of my friends sent me a message about not wishing the days away and I immediately tried to snap out of this funk. 😀
Thanks also to Red Brick, Graham, Tom, Hugh, Aisha, Holden, Rudyard and Naomi for reading and for the 'likes'.

This poem shouts to us - it is passionate and demands to be read.
It evokes memories of the build-up to the Second World War and is a stark warning that it could happen all over again if Trumps obsession for personal power is not controlled.

Bravo, Tom.
I've said before, that I try to avoid the terms Left and Right, and that I prefer 'right and wrong'.
But if fighting for the human rights of all, for Britain's long-fought-for democratic freedoms makes me a 'Woke Lefty', then so be it.

The screens all praise, the papers lie,
the cameras tilt to meet his eye.
It's happening in the UK Rolph.
The once- noble profession of "Journalism" now the servant of who pays most.
Uncritical cut and paste hacks, and a police force which now asks 'how high, when foreign genocidal fascists say 'jump'.
"Investigative journalism", a thing of the past.

How must 'the ordinary citizen' feel in 'Trump Land' a once free land made up of many nations?
How far is he willing to go? and how will the world cope with him?
Trump has proved that he likes the power of killing - death row is a witness to that - he also feels that he is above the law, if that does not chill the blood nothing will.

Hello Hélène and Flyntland,
Yes, it is important to keep an OPEN mind, because independent, reflective and critical thinking certainly prevents us from immediately succumbing to all lies and deception.
A healthy and effective remedy against all the lies that are spread online is to keep your distance from social media and not to use them. The media have long since ceased to serve the purpose of proclaiming facts; they are the henchmen of a few who make them dance for their own purposes. The world likes it and diligently joins in.
To what extent do we allow others to determine what we think and say? What attracts others to this social media? The pain of others? That it doesn't affect them personally? Who will be the first to pull the plug?
There's a saying: dogs that bark don't bite. Let's hope it will apply to Putin and Trump.
Take care,
regards,
Rolph

Good morning Holden, Laura, Stephen and Flyntland,
Thank you very much for your kind words and compliments. There is so much evil happening in the world again and everyone is kind of watching, powerless because of the things that are going on. It's just incomprehensible how history can keep repeating itself when the seed of evil falls on fertile ground and no one recognises it in time and pulls it out to prevent worse things from arising.
Have a great week everyone!
Cheers to all the brave ones!
Kind regards,
Rolph

"As compass through

I hate todays lack of dignity and shallow friendships.
I was born during a time when we did not keep touching each other - and we were not expected to keep grinning at everyone all of the time. I hate being hugged and kissed for no reason.
But your poem is so much more than that and I love it.

You look into the cloudburst of the setting sun,
As if the spectrum of light were a language,
Forged in wavelengths, amber and blinding.
The cluster of golden filament leaking from the clouds,
These are lovely words Laura

Thank you, Graham. Yes, the perverse consequences of the melting of the polar ice caps pushing the Gulf Stream south. The UK could, as you say, be caught in no-man's-land.
Thanks, Flyntland. It was intended to hint at a lack of global leadership, particularly in the US, which now seems to be without adult supervision for at least the next four years. Despite Brexit, It seems to me very important for the UK to work with the EU and not get sucked into the US deepfake orbit.

I agree with Holden and Laura.
Chilling - sad - and a lesson for us all - give nothing and you get nothing, on our own we are helpless,
Rolph I have come back to thinking about Brexit, and I did not think of it when I first read your poem.
I think it shows how clever your poem is, it is so relevant to so many people.

Thank you all for kindly reading and clicking on a flower.
Thank you, Stephen, I really appreciate your comment,
My memories probably started when I was about 5 years old, the war was just about over and I was becoming aware of the road outside our gate. Poverty and shabbiness were normal to us all, we knew nothing different. In retrospect, I do not know how anyone managed to bring up a family on what was available to them.
Not 'The good old days'

This compact little poem screams to me of insecurity - no global leadership - this is possibly not what you intended but it also brings me back to Brexit.
We are such a small island that whatever we do on our own can have little impact on global warming. Since Brexit, whatever we do politically will offend someone to the point of us having to accept deals on terms that we do not want to agree to. That's what happens when we have to live without friends.
All roads seem to lead to Brexit and the mistake of voting without thinking through the consequences.

A really impressive poem, Flyntland. It has echoes of my chlldhood, and that of my parents, I suspect. I can just remember those old East End streets which, later, I only knew as a view from a train. But the rabbits and the Co-op stamps are very familiar.
Thanks for this.

Thank you, Landi.
Mr Speaker, given the Titanic success of Brexit, my constituents are now in full agreement that pigs now have been sucessfully persuaded to take to the air; a miracle achieved through the application of copious quantities of excrement of bovine origin to the political discourse within in his Majesty’s donkey sanctuary.
It's my constituents' considered opinion that that sheep too, propelled with the aid of Faragean flatulence, may also be encouraged to emulate our porcine brothers (and sisters) and fly off to the promised sunlit uplands where they can nest in all those lovely poetrees.
Thank you, Mr Speaker….baaaaah, baaaaah, baaaaah, baaaaah, baaaaah.
